🌍 Embracing Sustainable Tourism: A Proud Step for Normandy! I'm thrilled to see my beloved Normandy leading the charge in sustainable tourism. Our region is often hailed as a haven for visitors, but it's time we ensure our allure doesn't come at the cost of our planet. 🚗🛩️ With 80% of long-distance travel being leisure-driven, it's vital we address the environmental footprint of tourism. Normandy's initiative promoting "green mobility" is a beacon of hope, setting an example for regions worldwide. 💡 This isn't just about reducing carbon emissions; it's about shaping a future where tourism coexists harmoniously with nature. Normandy's commitment to eco-friendly transportation is a testament to our dedication to preserving our natural treasures for generations to come. 🌱👣 Join me in celebrating and sharing Normandy's proactive stance towards sustainability. Together, let's pave the way for a greener, more responsible tourism industry. #sustainabletourism #proudnormand #greentransition #fossilfree #normandie #energytransition Région Normandie / ADEME https://lnkd.in/eiRpBJr5

What will tourism look like in #France and worldwide by 2040? Atout France - The France Tourism Development Agency explores possible tourism #futures in the coming years. Six major #trends that could shape tourism in the future: ⬇ 🔻 #regenerativetourism aims to allow visitors to have a positive impact on their vacation #destination, whether it's the local economy, landscapes, or #biodiversity. This type of tourism seeks to contribute actively to environmental revitalization, such as participating in tree-planting projects, improving waste management, or supporting local flora and fauna. 🔻 A number for a challenge: According to the United Nations, approximately 7 out of 10 people will live in cities by 2050, accounting for 68% of the world's population, compared to the current 55%. This rapid #urbanization will impact tourism by transforming landscapes into densely populated city centers, posing challenges related to #infrastructure and #mobility and influencing travelers' destination choices. 🔻 Life-changing Model: In a society increasingly questioning hyper-#consumption, new economic models are emerging, such as the concept of a #frugal economy, representing both reasoned consumption and #circular and collaborative economic models. The development of frugal business models and ecosystems is one of the changes that could impact the world and the tourism industry in the coming years. 🔻 Feeling for better understanding: The increase in exchanges and tourist flows, driven by #transportation development and #digitalization, has led to a "shrinking world" sensation. The growing development of tourist offerings focused on surprise and #adventure reflects the public's search for unexpected and unique #experiences. 🔻 Game-changing Technologies: The evolution of #technologies has a significant impact on the possible futures of tourism. The study explores the potential development of mature #green technologies that sustain global tourism while preserving the environment. The "Globalized Village" scenario envisions destinations once distant becoming easily #accessible through #decarbonized mobility options and significant infrastructure #investments. 🔻 Thought-provoking Estimate: Through bibliography analysis, interviews, and data analysis, Atout France and Onepoint have developed four prospective #scenarios for future tourism, along with estimating the potential flow of international tourists associated with each scenario. The most pessimistic scenario, "World Archipelago," envisions a world where climate urgency is not adequately addressed, leading to a significant reduction in international tourists to 30 million for France in 2040. Conversely, the "Globalized Villages" scenario could accommodate 120 million or more international tourists annually. #futureoftourism

🌿 Embracing sustainable travel 🌿 🏞️ 80% of French explorers seek less-crowded destinations, as revealed by a recent OpinionWay study. Bali's €10 tax on foreign visitors to preserve culture and the environment aligns with this eco-conscious shift. ❎ With 52% supporting visitor quotas, inspired by successes in the calanque de Sugiton and Brehat Island, responsible tourism gains momentum. Notably, 83% express a readiness to explore off-the-beaten-path locales, and over 60% are willing to limit annual travel. 🌐 The study indicates a rising preference for "slow tourism," with 72% ready to venture beyond traditional tourist spots. As responsible travelers, let's make mindful choices for a sustainable and enriching travel experience. ✈️ #SustainableTravel #ResponsibleTourism #TravelTrends https://lnkd.in/ehcBtWbp.

A very insightful paper by Rémy Knafou about "Reflective tourism" ('tourisme réflexif' in French): https://lnkd.in/eqgVwn4p (in French) Here are some takeaways and reflection points. 🔍 Redefining tourism: the concept of 'reflective tourism' goes beyond traditional leisure travel. It's about creating deep, meaningful experiences that encourage us to reflect on our travel practices and their broader implications. This approach challenges us to think about how we can make our travels more responsible and enriching, not just for ourselves but for the communities and environments we visit. 🌐 Societal relevance: in a world facing ecological challenges and societal tensions, reflective tourism offers a unique lens to understand and engage with these issues. It's a call to action for us as travelers to be more aware of our impact and to contribute positively to the places we visit. 🏛️ Learning from history: the paper highlights how memory sites like concentration camps and memorials can be integral to reflective tourism. These sites are not just historical markers but powerful tools for understanding and reflection. They remind us of the past's lessons and how they can inform our present and future actions. 🏙️ Urban objects as reflection starting points: intriguing examples like the Stolpersteine (stumbling stones) in Germany and the Versunkene Bibliothek (Sunken Library) in Berlin show how urban objects can provoke thought and reflection. These subtle yet impactful installations invite us to engage with history in a personal and profound way. It links very much to the Vectors of Memory developed by the LRE Foundation and Studio Libeskind. 🤔 Challenges and opportunities: implementing reflective tourism isn't without its challenges. Ensuring that its deeper meanings are understood by the public is crucial (the example of Jan Karski's scuplture-bench in Krakow, mentioned in the paper, should question us all). This aspect opens a dialogue on how we can make tourism more inclusive, informative, and transformative. Those points raise many questions: How can we, as part of the remembrance tourism community, contribute to a more reflective, responsible, and sustainable approach to tourism? As visitors, how can our travels not only enrich our lives but also positively impact the societies and environments we visit? #ReflectiveTourism #RemembranceTourism #SustainableTravel #WWII

Exciting to see how rural tourism can energize our regions while preserving their unique identity! 🌍🌾 The joint study between the European Union Committee of the Regions and UN Tourism highlights the immense potential of rural tourism in Europe. Despite the challenges of the pandemic, rural tourism has shown incredible resilience, even attracting local travelers 🚗. By promoting economic diversification and preserving cultural heritage, it creates jobs and strengthens local communities. But challenges remain real, particularly in terms of infrastructure and demographic decline. Fortunately, the report proposes recommendations to maximize economic benefits, such as encouraging value chain integration, promoting digital connectivity, and respecting sustainable practices. This will maximize the economic benefits of rural tourism while preserving our natural and cultural resources for future generations. ♻️ Rural tourism is much more than a picturesque getaway; it's an essential engine for balanced and sustainable development of our regions 🌱💼. #TourismeRural #DéveloppementDurable #Communautéslocales https://lnkd.in/e4eNbZHE

🏝️ New Caledonia's #tourism sector, once suffocated by the Covid pandemic, is finally seeing signs of recovery. In 2023, La Tontouta Airport welcomed 125,895 international visitors, a 4% decrease from the record year of 2019.
