I have organised a social event tonight for current and former colleagues and find myself pondering the question. "Has the art of RSVPs gone by the wayside?" When you get an invite and in the modern world we get a lot of these how often do you bother responding? If you invite people for dinner usually you expect a response so you know how many places to set and how much food to cook. So when is it acceptable to simple not respond? There are 4 options when you get a meeting invite Yes I am coming No I do not plan on coming I might be there Unknown/no response What could/does "no response mean" - I am non comital but do not want to say maybe - your invite ended up in a spam folder and I will never see it - I saw your invite and was planing on responding later - I responded but you are on google and I am on outlook and response has not been recorded (or visa versa) - I no longer use this email address but you do not know that - and many more I am actually pleased with 1/3 response rate (this is where invites has ended up) Lets see if the space I have booked (for about 60 give or take) is sufficient or if all or most of the 169 of my closets friends just turn up!

What’s your plan for this Friday evening? Probably you are going to have some booze with the boys or girls. It is not bad by the way. Mimi, I have been taking copious amounts for quite some time now. A good way to let out on a weekend after a busy week ,right? And when I say booze, I am not talking of those mawhisky and fine things that Teddy Kivuvani Muthusi talks about when he is talking about Singleton, connoisseurs, savouring and other big English whatnots. No, I am talking about the kind of beer you drink and start giving people imaginary jobs, texting your former girlfriends in the middle of the night and calling that Florence from Procurement who broke your heart so bad that it still hurts at midnight. But come on, we can do better. We are big boys and girls now, right? Well, one young lady that I respect Miss Muthoni Njoroge is having this virtual personal branding session on Linkedin at 7.00 pm. I have interacted with the kind of content she relays during this forums and I can attest that she is a rare gem. Man, she is young but I do not know how these young guys are being born ready. I look at joining this event as positive in three ways: ✔ You will get some nuggets of wisdom  ✔ You will spare your beer money at least leo ipumue. ✔ Connect with other like-minded Linkedin members Lets meet during that session, shall we?

Mobley's Musings–No Mo’ No Show It has been said that eighty percent of success is just showing up. I don’t agree entirely with that idea, but lately, I have experienced a number of people just not showing up. They RSVP in the affirmative for social events or sign up for work events and then don’t appear. In some situations, the host may have spent a lot on catering, only to have much of it go to waste. And in cases where seating is limited, the no-shows prevented people who really want to attend from going. What’s happening? Didn’t their parents teach them good manners? Are people lacking in empathy and only concerned about their own needs? Or is something else at play? Regardless of the reason, there are some ways to address the problem. One organization keeps tabs on no-shows and doesn’t allow them to sign up for future events. Another organization charges a nominal registration fee that helps to offset a no-show’s catering cost. One leader has his admin contact no-shows and requests they send a letter of apology explaining their absence. If it’s an event at my home, the offenders fall off future guest lists. Even if that eighty percent guesstimate is wildly overstated, just showing up will always count for something, while not showing up will always count for less than nothing. #juicywork #leadershipdevelopment

They wanted to take a break from drinking but were concerned about upcoming events: their birthday, their partner’s promotion, and a family holiday abroad. “I don’t want to be boring,” they said. “How can I celebrate if I’m not drinking?” I asked, “Why do you want to take a break?” Without hesitation, they replied, “To be a better version of me for my family.” So, I reframed the question: “What is more important, your family or the fear of being boring?” Silence.
