Our mission to lead the way in sustainable lighting manufacturing also applies to the packaging of our products. To minimise the use of plastic and further lower our carbon footprint, we have invested in two Finnish startups that have developed alternative materials to plastic packaging, Paptic Ltd and Woamy. We are proud to report excellent results in terms of being able to replace existing plastic packaging with more sustainable alternatives. The packaging of our Petite product line has been completely plastic-free since February 2024. We are preparing to make the packaging of our other lamps recyclable and align them with the principles of the circular economy. Had so much fun today playing with finishes, materials and colour palettes for two current projects and John Miller gave an improtu design lecturer at lunch time for our new starters to give them an overview on the history of design. It's interesting looking back at all the changes in design, product and materials that are influenced by material innovation and world events. Looking back you can see on one hand so much as changed and on the other not a lot! Made me think a lot of the play and experimentation has gone out of design as we strive not to waste and ensure we make sustainable choices - there's much more focus on information and research in to supply chain than ever before. It'd be nice to see this design period be defined by a turning point in how we approach our product specification - if companies like Shein continue to amass market share and overconsumption remains untapped and unregulated then we'll definitely not be looking back so fondly on this time as we do the work of the Arts&Craft movement, the Shakers or the Bauhaus! #workplacedesign #hospitalitydesign #furnituredesign #officefurniture
