While people might use the words “taste” and “flavor” interchangeably, there are several key differences between ythe two. Specialized receptors on the tongue underlie the five sensations that makeup taste: salty, sour, bitter, sweet, and umami. Flavors refer more to the experience of consuming food, which not only includes taste but also aroma.
