Your customer care operators after pressing 6 and 3 say that they are not authorised to take this request, your wheelchair department after pressing 6 and 1 says the same thing, the hyperlink to fill the form on the website shows page not found error, who do I contact? I need to add the code 'BLND' for myself and my wife on my PNRs U31LQK and R19VPQ. Contact number-9892622230. Why should this service not be a part of reservation booking form itself instead of us having to try multiple channels to indicate our requirements? ♿ Totally unintentional but the timing is spot on... ACI World - Airports Council International has just launched its Airports and Accessible Travel: A Practical Guide – dedicated to improving accessible travel for all passengers. At the same time, the Equal Skies Charter (which is supported by Aerobility, NATS and Apian) is set to release a white paper highlighting the importance of prioritising disability needs as aviation enters a new era with the future of flight. Meanwhile, in this latest issue (Sep-Nov) issue of Regional Gateway, I report on the challenges facing passengers with disabilities. The feedback was unanimous: while there is plenty of work to be done, raising awareness and ensuring consistency are essential steps toward making airports truly accessible for everyone. ICAO welcomes the significant contributions of #COSP17 towards a more inclusive world. This is a high priority for our organization. The ICAO Assembly during its 41st Session, adopted Resolution A41-15 on Accessibility in International Civil Aviation, which reinforces ICAO’s continuous leadership on sustainability including social sustainability imperatives of inclusion and accessibility. To maintain this leadership, the ICAO Council is tasked with developing an effective strategy and work programme on accessibility to achieve a disability-inclusive air transport system. The ICAO Council, considering the 75th Anniversary of Annex 9 - Facilitation to the Convention on International Civil Aviation, reaffirmed the importance of air transport Facilitation and approved 2024 as the Year of Facilitation (#FAL2024). The Council has taken steps to ensure that Annex 9 Standards and Recommended Practices recognize the essential nature of accessible services for persons with disabilities. This includes Council’s approval of Annex 9 – Facilitation, Amendment 29, which enhances 5 Recommended Practices to Standards, including the standard for States to: 1) implement provisions on accessibility of flight service-related information for persons with hearing and vision impairments, 2) the basic right to assistance for passengers with disabilities, and 3) the establishment of designated parking and drop off areas for persons with disabilities at terminal buildings. The ICAO Air Transport Committee recently approved the Secretariat’s recommendation to establish a Working Group on Accessibility in International Civil Aviation (WGAA) to make concrete recommendations to support accessibility for persons with disabilities and reduced mobility within the aviation sector. The focus is on developing a comprehensive collection of regulations, statutes, and policies related to aviation accessibility.  In the context of the Year of Facilitation (#FAL2024), ICAO, in collaboration with ACI World - Airports Council International and International Air Transport Association (IATA) will host a Symposium focused on enhancing accessibility in air travel for passengers with disabilities and reduced mobility. This event, dates to be determined, will aim to elevate awareness, foster collaboration, and share best practices to create a more inclusive air transport system. You know, there’s something magical happening in the skies. IndiGo, the airline we’ve all flown, just welcomed 77 new women pilots. Imagine that—many of them stepping into a cockpit for the first time. This is more than just numbers; it’s women from rural villages breaking into spaces that were once considered exclusively male. IndiGo already has 800 women pilots, the highest in the world for any airline. But still, it’s only 14% of their crew. They’re not stopping there though; they’ve set their sights on reaching 1,000 by the end of the year. And it’s not just the skies. BluSmart, that electric cab company, is quietly empowering women on the roads. They’ve got this beautiful model where women don’t have to own their cars. So far, 120 women are driving for them, with 250 more in training. It’s a breath of fresh air, literally, and they’ve created safe spaces—charging hubs with lounges, washrooms—things that might seem small but mean everything. It’s more than diversity. It’s independence. Women, like one driver who rebuilt her life after a tough separation, are finding freedom. IndiGo’s motto says it all: Beti ko Pilot Banao. The next episode of "Eurostar doesn't really like wheelchair users"... The good news is that they changed this ridiculous website text telling wheelchair users they must give up their own wheelchairs when boarding and deboarding the train. See my previous posts if you don't know what I'm talking about. The new text changes the topic; it's now about the repair state of the passenger's wheelchair, something they never mentioned before: "If you’re travelling in your own manual wheelchair without a companion and you need assistance boarding or getting off the train in London, you are required to ensure that your wheelchair is in a good state of repair and working normally." And then: "If you require assistance, if the condition of your wheelchair means that there is a risk of injury to yourself or our employees/partners, we reserve the right to refuse assistance or to ask you to transfer to a station-provided wheelchair if you are able to do so." As if wheelchair users love to travel in wheelchairs with only three wheels and a broken footrest, the message is, again, alienating disabled customers. Why is it okay to threaten customers with a service refusal for such an unusual problem? It's the opposite of welcoming. What's the solution then after assistance refusal? It makes no sense whatsoever. Disabled people complained AGAIN to the regulator that the text doesn't reflect their Assistance Travel Policy (ATP). I don't know how often they will play this game now. The reputational damage is done already, months before the Paralympics in Paris. Many wheelchair users who read this might not feel welcome; the regulator seems unhappy, and it all makes no sense. It looks like doubling down out of principle instead of saying the only word that is needed here: sorry.
