With growing concerns over the negative environmental impact of transportation, the aviation industry needs to take decisive steps to reach net zero. That is why we are proud to partner with Menzies Aviation, who has made a net-zero commitment for scope 1, 2, and 3 CO2e emissions across the company by 2045 and supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 13 that concerns Climate Change. Since 1833, Menzies Aviation has established itself as the leading service partner to the world’s airports and airlines, operating in over 265 locations across six continents. However, amidst its impressive growth and success, the company remains dedicated to empowering its people and protecting the environment. As of March this year, Menzies Aviation started providing full ground handling services at Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport, including ramp handling and baggage, de-icing, and passenger services. It will also provide PRM services and air cargo services. This created an opportunity for a major sustainability innovation at Belgrade Airport. In April, Menzies Aviation conducted the region's first ‘green-turn’ using vehicles powered exclusively by electric Ground Support Equipment (GSE). This milestone signifies Menzies' dedication to a fair and sustainable future and marks an important step forward for the region as a whole, bringing it closer to emerging global trends. Join us in Porto Montenegro from April 24th to 26th! Register now and join the regional movement for a sustainable future 👉 summit.esgadria.org ESG Adria Summit is organised by Sustineri Partners and Porto Montenegro, in partnership with the Government of Montenegro and under the auspices of the President of Montenegro.

In 2023, sustainability took center stage in aviation, offering both opportunities and challenges. The International Air Transport Association (IATA) aims to slash net carbon emissions by 50% by 2050 (compared to 2005) and achieve carbon-neutral growth from 2020. Airlines responded with initiatives like investing in sustainable aviation fuels, emission offsetting, engine retrofits, and the introduction of electric or hybrid planes. Despite progress, obstacles remain, such as high costs of sustainable fuels, global standard gaps, slow tech innovation, and pandemic impacts on recovery and demand. While strides are made, collaboration and innovation are crucial for a greener future.
