Do you have a lot of “concerns” about your workplace? I talk to a lot of people who aren’t necessarily in a toxic workplace but they have “concerns” about some gaps they perceive to be there. It’s ok to name gaps and voice concerns. But before you do, here’s a protip - Own your part of the reality. Why? Sometimes what you perceive is actually a projection. Sometimes your projection is a coping mechanism for something you haven’t fully dealt with or healed from. Continuous work depletes these reserves, leading to diminished focus and productivity. Taking breaks allows these stores to replenish, ensuring sustained performance. Moments of respite foster creativity. When we step away from tasks, our minds wander, making novel connections and sparking innovative ideas. A wandering mind unsticks us in time, enabling us to learn from the past and plan for the future. During breaks, our brains consolidate memories. This process solidifies learning and helps us retain information more effectively. Downtime isn’t just about productivity; it also maintains our moral compass. Reflecting during breaks allows us to assess our actions and maintain a sense of self.
