Here comes my first SCI Publication of the Year 2024, executed in collaboration with some excellent Researchers from #Brazil, and focused on the Electric Discharge Machining (#EDM) of high-strength Inconel for potential Aerospace applications. An innovative new device invented by University of Birmingham researcher Jason Stafford can help us to unlock the remarkable potential of 2D materials such as graphene. Thanks to their remarkable strength and lightweight resilience, aluminium alloys have become the material of choice for aircraft components 🛫 When manufactured using selective laser melting (SLM), alloys like Al7000 may show signs of cracking, which could compromise their overall strength and durability—according to Sharon Nai, Senior Principal Scientist at the Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology (SIMTech). Nai’s team at SIMTech joined forces with collaborators from Germany 🇩🇪 and China 🇨🇳 to create a new Al7000 variant that can be reliably produced using SLM.  The improved alloy variant incorporates elements like scandium and zirconium, leading to a reduced risk of cracking and a significant boost in the material’s mechanical strength.
