Sometimes you might have home projects as well. We were working to move a fence, and still found a good way to stress safety and good practices. I learned from our last experience, that the truck should be further back. This time around, we all stood back and made sure we had proper setup. This made the process as smooth as possible. Also, I think my camera was on 1.5x or 2x zoom by accident, I was definitely further back. It doesn't matter what your task is, making sure you have good setup and safe practice is important. Same thing applied for my PT in the military. Proper form is most important for learning to perform good push-ups, otherwise they aren't counted on your test. Slow is steady and steady is smooth. In closing, even though this was some fun work, I like to say sometimes: "you can always tell your customer, I am sorry that we were slow, but its all correct and good to go". However, try and tell a customer "we went too fast and someone got hurt. . . The below is a real US Military M6 Electrical Detonator x-rayed in a Smiths Detection and Rapiscan x-ray system. Because checkpoint security x-rays systems have very poor image resolution compared to Bomb Technician x-rays you will get a ton of pixelation on small items. The M6 is a bridgewire instantaneous detonator and has no delay element inside. What you are seeing are the 2 wires that are encapsulated into a plug assembly going about halfway into the aluminum tube shell and end at the bridgewire. When current is applied (typically minimum of 1 ampere) the tungsten bridgewire will heat up and start the burning process inside of the detonator. What is initially ignited is a Lead Styphnate/Lead Azide primary explosive that is very sensitive to heat shock and friction. This is the dark black section you see inside of the aluminum shell and is COMMON in all types of detonators and blasting caps. The next step in the burring process is the detonator main charge which is typically a RDX or PETN high explosives'. This is the orange-colored section you see inside of the aluminum tube. Which x-ray image is LESS pixilated? The one on the left is from Smiths detection and the one on the right is Rapiscan.

Allow me to be synical and put tongue in cheek a little..!!arc flash was invented in the 1980’s in American and gradually engulfed Europe and UK. Before that time there was no arc flash events. Oh of course there were fires explosions electrocutions. Flash overs!! Oil fires. But no arc flash! Of course there was mo need for arc flash ppe.. we had no arc flash of course. I believe that AVO were instrumental in this. They said electric is dangerous . Therefore it must be maintained therefore you need test gear. ( I worked with avo hv training for a few months in Dallas) This then expanded to electric can cause arcs.. let’s sell a lot of arc flash ppe even though ppe is the last line of defence.

I have some questions I'd like to post here to see if I can get answers from my network. How are lower echelon maintenance cycles for weapons systems executed in the field or in combat? How do you know you need to take a system off the line and put in some maintenance on it? Is it simply just time or use bound? or that plus any observation of improper performance? What kind of gear do weapons system maintainers use in the field to validate that their lower echelon maintenance work on these systems has been successful? Does this maintenance gear require calibration? I'd be really interested in any comments that can help with this. I'm also interested connect privately for these discussions if that would be a better forum. In my lines of work I've been mostly in the category of "operator" in terms of gear. I'd like to learn more specfics from the maintainers out there who can tell me what happens to stuff after folks like me point out that we think it's broken. Thanks everyone!

Are you aware of TPP? Thermal Protective Performance? But are you aware of the danger of cumulative heat transfer? A firefighter's gear can gradually absorb and store energy in these environments where firefighters receive thermal insult. And in many cases, they occur in training!
