If you’re in the logistics industry, you might know the Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix in Melbourne is the most logistically complicated sporting event in the world 🏎 2 weeks prior to the Australian F1, after the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, the teams pack up their kits and 10 – that's right 10 - dedicated DHL Boeing 777 freighters fly the 13,000 odd kilometres to Melbourne’s Avalon airport. 🛬    For most other F1 events it’s “only” 5 777s, but the F2 and F3 championships are racing too, so the whole gang is in town. 🏎 🏎 🏎️    The planes are carrying a lazy 1,000 tonnes of cargo. But that’s only the “essential” stuff, including 20 F1 cars and 56 F2/F3 vehicles. The cars are all disassembled into their 5,000 component parts...Umm, someone please remind me to buy bubble wrap shares. 🙋🏼♀️    The non-essential stuff, like 15,000 items of furniture, have just arrived on a container ship that left Europe in January. That’s 120 odd containers weighing another 1,250 tonnes or so.    And if you’re into maths, the 1-2 weeks between F1 events means that, yes, there are multiple ships, carrying identical kits, in transit to other F1 destinations at the same time. 🚢 🚢 🚢    In the 4 weeks leading up to the event, there's another 100 semi-trailer loads of equipment on the move, including:   🏎 Racetrack equipment  🏎 Temporary grandstands  🏎 Marquees     That’s another 19,0000 tonnes or so – also creating 2,500 temporary jobs – and making it a nightmare to find drivers for other work!     EY (commissioned by the Victorian Govt.) estimated $268 million in economic benefit to the state in 2023 coming from close to 445,000 spectators comprising:  👨👩👧👦 - 365,000 Victorians  👨👩👧👦 - 80,000 from interstate & overseas    There are a lot of wheels turning to make the F1 happen. 🏎️

The summer season continues to take off for MAG (Airports Group) as almost 6m passengers travelled through our airports in May, up 9% year-on-year ✈️ Manchester Airport and London Stansted Airport once again had a record breaking month, with passenger numbers equal to 106% of those seen in May 2019. Operational performance remains strong as the peak summer period approaches, with 100% of passengers getting through security in 15 minutes or less at East Midlands Airport, with the figure standing at 99% at Manchester and 97% at London Stansted. Hunger games...with ice, please. There used to be no scheduled commercial flights at all between Portugal and Iceland. What used to be a lengthy multiple-stop 10-hour journey was reduced by less than half with the twice-weekly summer seasonal nonstop flights by PLAY airlines in 2022 between Lisbon and Reykjavik. These flights then became year-round in 2023. What about 2024? Well..."along came Icelandair". For the first time, both capitals will be connected 4 times a week...but only 2 days a week...and with just a few minutes apart from each other. Both capitals will be connected on Mondays and Fridays only...if you want to fly nonstop on any other day of the week, too bad for you. When days of the week and departure times are so similar (and probably price, too), what could be the key differentiator? Maybe the fact that Icelandair flies the infamous Boeing 737MAX8 on this route and PLAY flies the Airbus 320?! Lisbon-Reykjavik: double play or game over?!
