We invited The American Institute of Architects (AIA) leaders 2024 President Kimberly Dowdell and CEO Lakisha Ann Woods, CAE to engage with members in Hawaii and they joined us last week! 2024 AIA Hawaii State Council President Reid Mizue and 2024 AIA Honolulu President Wayne Goo welcomed them to Oahu. Our first stop was a ride on Skyline with Jon Nouchi from the City and County of Honolulu Department of Transportation Services sharing all the complexities of bringing this infrastructure giant to fruition through community engagement, history and culture of place, and costs of constructing in our remote location. While riding, we had a chance to share the Chief Architect initiative with Andrew Sugg, Chief of Staff to Mayor Rick Blangiardi. We also discussed how architects can contribute to achieving Oahu's climate action goals with Matthew Gonser and Ben Sullivan from the City and County of Honolulu Office of Climate Change, Sustainability and Resiliency. Mahalo to the City and County of Honolulu for taking the time to meet with us and hear how architects can be your partners in progress.
