We love to see AgLaunch farmers in the spotlight! Check out this great episode of Farm Moms featuring Traci Middleton by the Tennessee Beef Industry Council where she talks about the importance of cattle genetics and what it's like to be a producer and mom. In addition to all her hard work on the farm, she makes time to be an active member of the AgLaunch Farmer Network! Thanks for everything you do, Traci! https://lnkd.in/eNczDyqX

🎧 Nikki, PfL's Head of Research, discusses her approach to beef production with the #ScotlandOutdoorsPodcast on BBC Sounds. 🗣 PfL certified Grampian Graziers uses a variety of methods, such as bale grazing and deferred grazing, to increase biodiversity for the landowner while reducing input costs. The farm's cattle are kept outside all year round and eat nothing but the pasture and hay, with no barley, concentrates, grain, or imported feed. By keeping the cattle moving with low-input farming methods and avoiding overstocking and overgrazing, 116 kilos of carbon are offset for every kilo of beef produced, according to the linear measuring tool. This doesn't even account for the grassland making it much more. We can grow really species rich grassland in the UK, but we've lost 90% of this since the Second World War, pasture-fed farming systems can reverse this trajectory. Grampian Graziers supermarket price match their always sold out beef. Their pasture-fed meat is rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which is protective of human health. They are in the process of testing the meat for other nutrient content. #livestockfarming #livestock #cattle #scottishfarming https://lnkd.in/eAd2ixEK

Conservation Communications Manager - Facilitating Outdoor Engagement through Multimodal Storytelling
🌾 Working lands conservation HAS to be paired with regenerative, renewable, sustainable agricultural practices. Otherwise, all we're doing is taking one step forward and two steps back. 🌾 Whenever I see stuff like this video, I'm immediately skeptical... as I'm sure many others are. Grassland conservation for the betterment of wildlife is great... but not at the cost of the chemical use, land degradation, and fuel emissions that come from the contemporary agricultural operations that seem to be supported here in this piece. BUT... I was very encouraged to see the bit at the end, about the Working Grassland Conservation Initiative: "Through the Working Grassland Conservation Initiative, we are providing the technical and financial resources for cattle producers, mixed operators, and row crop farmers to advance conservation and sustainability on their operations... We're starting to gather data that can help us put a baseline to these numbers and help demonstrate and validate - not just say we're improving the environment but actually put numbers and metrics to those things so that we can use those to share with our consumers and really demonstrate and show the difference that we're making and how we're making those improvements over time." This is good. Really good. And I hope they stick to it. We should all make sure that they do. I'll say it again: Working lands conservation HAS to be paired with regenerative, renewable, sustainable agricultural practices. Otherwise, all we're doing is taking one step forward and two steps back. AND wasting donor and (in some cases) federal funding in the process. Great work, Ducks Unlimited ! Looking forward to seeing those numbers. #conservation #ducksunlimited #renewableenergy #regenerativeagriculture
What's the relationship between ducks and beef? You might be surprised, but Ducks Unlimited isn't. They know the strong relationship between working grasslands and waterfowl habitat preservation. That's why we are proud of their partnership in Trust In Beef and of the work they are doing with Certified Angus Beef ® brand to provide technical and financial support for ranching families who are working to preserve the entire ecosystem on and surrounding their ranches. "In a tragedy unfolding for hundreds of ranches on the Panhandle — the world’s largest region for beef production — cattle producers and experts are describing an unprecedented scene that has never been witnessed before, as wildfires continue." The historic Turkey Track Ranch, established in 1870 and among the first ranches in the Panhandle, is one such example of the unparalleled losses. Approximately 80% of its ranchlands have been consumed by wildfires. Total damages to infrastructure, land and livestock continue to be assessed across the region. There is a long road ahead, and the ranching community continues to stand together despite the hardships to help neighbors, provide supplies, and rebuild communities. “The Texas Panhandle is a beautiful and historic region that has endured many hardships before. We have no doubt that it will rise from the ashes and rebuild stronger than ever.” – Four Sixes Ranch, established 1870 Read more at: https://lnkd.in/gGsc7eQU

Stuck on a Med Dev or "thin film" technical finding? Follow me - Multi-Decade experience solving materials, design, and supply chain issues that others could not.
I’ve been focusing on our initial hauls, which are growing every day. I want to get back to infrastructure. One of our melon beds has a bent 16 foot by 50” (4g) cattle panel arch between it and some fence posts. We basically sunk t-posts at 2 corners of the bed. We used metal cable ties to secure the raise bed side to the panels. We then bent the panel manually and created an arch between the bed and posts. We secured the post side with u-nails to the 4” cedar posts. Where we don’t have posts, e.g. bed to bed, then we just secure both sides to t-posts with metal cable ties. Regardless, the melon vines grow up through the cattle panel. As the melons get bigger, we put them in a mesh bag, being careful not to damage the vine. We then secure the bag to the cattle panel, to reduce the weight of the melon on the vine. We find that this leads to a higher vine-ripened melon output. Cattle Panel Melon Arch:
