We are delighted to provide our first business update since delisting from AIM earlier this year and continue our journey from a discovery to an immuno-inflammation therapeutics company. We're making important progress with our small molecule drug discovery portfolio in immuno-inflammatory diseases, focusing on areas with significant unmet need and commercial potential. Our lead oral a4b7 integrin inhibitor for inflammatory bowel disease is nearing pre-clinical candidate selection, with planning for IND-enabling studies well underway. And we announce two new pipeline programmes which are progressing towards Lead Optimisation, with first-in-class and best-in-class potential. Elsewhere we are applying our PatientSeek platform to define a genetic fingerprint as a predictive biomarker for a4b7 response that will allow us to specifically design our pivotal clinical trials for success. Eliem Therapeutics, a biotechnology company, completed the acquisition of Tenet Medicines, a development-stage private biotechnology company. Financial terms were not disclosed. “Today marks a transformative milestone for Eliem Therapeutics as we strive to become a leading immunology and inflammation company focused on developing novel treatments for a broad range of autoimmune diseases. With the concurrent close of our $120m private placement, we now have a robust balance sheet with approximately $220m in cash and cash equivalents and are poised to advance the development of TNT119, our lead anti-CD19 antibody, through multiple milestones and for several autoimmune diseases. Contineum Therapeutics, a Phase 1 biotech developing small molecule therapies for NI&I indications, filed on Friday with the SEC to raise up to $150 million in an initial public offering. Contineum Therapeutics is focused on discovering and developing novel, oral small molecule therapies for the treatment of neuroscience, inflammation, and immunology (NI&I) indications with high unmet need. Its wholly-owned lead asset, PIPE-791, is a novel, brain penetrant, small molecule inhibitor in development for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and progressive multiple sclerosis (Progressive MS). The company has completed a Phase 1 trial of PIPE-791 in healthy volunteers in both indications, and it plans to submit a Clinical Trial Authorization to the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency to commence a Phase 1b open-label trial in 2024. imetelstat, the drug treats myelodysplastic syndromes and some analysts believe it has blockbuster potential. Over the many years of Geron’s research, imetelstat failed studies in multiple cancer types, and the company lost Johnson & Johnson as a partner along the way. But the drug finally succeeded in Phase 3 testing last year. And in March, it secured the endorsement of an FDA advisory panel despite skepticism from agency reviewers. Geron aims to challenge Bristol Myers Squibb’s Reblozyl, first with a clearance in people with “lower-risk” disease and then in more people who have the condition. Mestag Therapeutics has been working to change how fibroblasts are activated and how they expand. Now, Merck & Co. wants in—penning a $1.9 billion biobucks deal to collaborate on new therapies for inflammatory diseases.
