Congrats to our colleagues at THE CHINESE ROOM LTD, from what I can see all over the internet, people are enjoying Still Wakes the Deep immensely! It's so uplifting to see our names included in the credits :) Especially that it might be easy to think that teams like learning and development don't really contribute to making games, so what are we doing in those credits... And that's why I thought it would be a good topic for a quick post, so here it goes :) What can an L&D team do for game developers? We can help you upskill - not only by finding course providers to help you hone your craft but also (and mainly!) by developing and delivering internal programmes to work on your impact skills. And the advantage of doing that in-house is that we know the business and we can really make sure that our workshops respond to your actual needs and make a real impact. But that's not all! There's loads more we do for our studios, like organise events to help our developers share their knowledge with others, we curate learning content that's published on our learnig platform to make sure it's relevant, we help our people find mentors to develop their careers further... We also provide coaching when people need a bit of help, we can help teams find a common language and work on alignment... My L&D buddies can probably add more to that list, but the point is that even if we don't make those games, we make our studios better places to work at by supporting the hell out of our gamedev teams :)

💡 Continuous learning and personal development are not just buzzwords in the gaming industry – they are the keys to success. As game studios strive for excellence and innovation, it is crucial for you to embrace ongoing improvement and development in all aspects of their careers. 🎯 Unleash Your Creativity 🎨 Engaging in personal projects is a powerful way to fuel personal and professional growth. Through personal projects, you get the opportunity to explore and experiment with new ideas, technologies, and game mechanics outside your daily work. It's a chance to improve skills, try new approaches, and conquer new challenges. Whether it's building a small indie game, creating a mod, or participating in game jams, personal projects enable you to expand your horizons and keep your creative juices flowing. 📊 Understand Your Strengths and Areas of Development 📈 Things like psychometric reports can provide valuable insights into an your personality traits, strengths, and areas for development. Understanding yourself and others is crucial for good emotional intelligence. These reports can shed light on communication styles, problem-solving abilities, and leadership qualities, helping you to leverage your strengths and bridge your development gaps. So if you have had them done already (Myers Briggs, Insights, Engage etc) dust them off and look through. Otherwise find online quizzes (DM me if you want some links) 🔄 Grow Together, Thrive Together 🌱 360-degree feedback reporting is a powerful tool that promotes growth and development through constructive feedback from multiple perspectives. By encouraging and participating in 360-degree feedback (formally or informally), you can build trust, strengthen relationships, and nurture a culture of continuous improvement within the studio. Together, you can accomplish great things. 🌟 The Value of Ongoing Improvement and Development ✨ Investing in continuous learning and personal development is an investment in your future and the success of your game studio. This commitment to ongoing improvement leads not only to individual success but also to the success of the studio as a whole. ‘Leadership is a skill, NOT a position’ Personal and professional growth are not destinations but ongoing journeys. This resource could work across a range of audiences. Both to encourage young/any age adults to the industry, those entering their first role and those joining the industry in a service support capacity to understand what goes in to making a game! the team working/ communications / adaptability sessions are good generic pointers/ reminders of the important soft skills critical to creating the right environment to make a great game.
Free course! In 2021, we commissioned a digital course to help students understand how a game studio is run and what behaviours they should focus on when searching for their first role. This is now available for free to everyone! ❤️ This is great for college and university students or anyone who wants to gain insight into a modern studio's working practices. The course is broken down into 19 short form videos covering; ➡️ The development cycle ➡️ Communication ➡️ Teamwork ➡️ Idea generation ➡️ Basic project management Thank you to the brilliant Caspar Field for writing and starring in this excellent resource and Big Egg Films for the high-spec video production. Enjoy! Link in comments for sign up...

I've got to give a big shoutout to 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) for totally changing my tech game. Before 3MTT, I didn't know much about software stuff. But thanks to them, I'm now rocking it in software development and product design. First off, huge thanks to Joseph Brendan for being my tech inspiration. His videos on UI/UX design and software development lit a fire in me. And then there's Dr. ‘Bosun Tijani, Min. of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, the brains behind 3MTT, whose passion for making Nigeria a tech powerhouse created this amazing program. During my time with 3MTT, I worked on some cool projects like a scientific calculator and a weather website. These projects show off what I've learned – coding skills and making stuff that people find useful. But it's not just about the courses and projects. The 3MTT learning community is awesome! We discuss tech, make cool friends, and share our passion for all things tech. Plus, there are always tech webinars available for 3MTT fellows to keep learning and growing. speaking of community, we had a fantastic 3MTT meetup last Saturday. It was so inspiring to connect with fellow tech enthusiasts and share our experiences. Now, let's talk about a big problem in the tech industry: accessibility to quality education. Many aspiring techies struggle to find affordable and comprehensive learning resources. That's where programs like 3MTT come in – they provide accessible and structured learning opportunities, empowering individuals to pursue careers in technology regardless of their background or financial status. I'm super grateful for 3MTT's support and the skills I've gained. Excited to keep growing and making a difference in the tech world. #TechJourney #3MTT #SoftwareDevelopment #ProductDesign #Innovation #TechTransformation

🌟 Day 6 at 42 London #Piscine: Post-Exam Reflection and Starting the Rush Project! 🌟 It's 10 PM, and what a day it has been! 🚀 After yesterday's intense exam, today we shifted gears and dived straight into our weekend Rush project. It's been a long and productive day, but the effort is definitely worth it. 🔍 What I Did Today: 👉 Post-Exam Reflection: Took some time to reflect on yesterday's exam, understanding what went well and areas for improvement. 👉 Starting the Rush Project: Launched into our group project, collaborating closely with my team. We’re dedicating between 8 to 10 hours each day to ensure we produce something amazing. 💡 Key Takeaways: 👉 Collaboration: Working with a team brings fresh perspectives and ideas. 👉 The synergy is incredible, and it’s great to learn from each other. 👉 Dedication: Spending long hours on this project is intense, but the motivation to create something impactful keeps us going. 👉 Resilience: The transition from exam prep to a new project was challenging, but it’s teaching us valuable lessons in adaptability and time management. Feeling a mix of exhaustion and happiness as we push through this Rush project. Looking forward to seeing the final outcome and sharing our progress. Stay tuned for more updates! #coding #42london #peerlearning #tuitionfree #opportunity #piscine #CodingJourney #TechEducation #LifeLongLearning #SaturdayMotivation #Rush

Life as a GameDev requires a good amount of patience, perseverance, and the ability to learn on the fly; life as a GameDev instructor even more so! But still, I wouldn't trade it for the world. And as I look at my hobbies, they all require these three things as well. For example, I started learning how to make mead at the start of the year and after 4mo of hard work... I have one batch bottled and a second batch that is ½ way done. So, with that said, if you're looking for an engineer or technical designer who isn't afraid to dive into learning how he can best provide you value and has a boat load of perseverance and patience, I'd love to chat! Pic of both meads (Carboy is green tea, lemon, ginger mead and in-glass is a traditional mead) just because I love doing what I do!

Gamification Strategist | People Engagement Consultant | Director and Principal Consultant at Living Theories
HOW GAMES INSPIRE CHANGE It was a privilege to be invited as a judge for Ministry of National Development Singapore's OneService Game Changers Challenge 2024! Participants were tasked to build a game around addressing Municipal issues, like noise pollution, animal feeding and corridor cluttering. Participants had 1 1/2 days to come up with a prototype, and the effort was amazing! What was truly heartwarming to see was that it wasn't just students who were interested in this issue; we had polytechnic lecturers form teams, entire families who signed up together, professional game design and UX teams, and friend groups in general! Participating in a hackathon isn't easy. It's 1 - 2 days of nerves, intense brain-powering, and overnight creation of materials, rulebooks, concepts and playtesting. It amazes me that all these guys were willing to put themselves through this process to present their vision of an experience, and it really showed with some awesome ideas. This is the power of #gamification. Games have the power to reshape thinking, reimagine how things can be done, or facilitate meaningful and powerful conversations. It is the very reason why we created Living Theories in the first place, and I'm so glad that we are able to add a little more into the creativity, excitement and meaning of our society. Game on! #livingtheoriesadventures #gamedesign #inspiring change
