Project Labor Agreements (PLAs) will be made mandatory for most large-scale Federal construction projects in the USA, according to an anticipated final rule, implementing President’s Biden Executive Order 14063. The rule is said to: Eliminate the risk of delay associated with labor unrest Ensure that parties agree to dispute resolution procedures and mechanisms for labor-management cooperation on matters like safety Make clear that PLAs may include other provisions designed to support workers from underserved communities and small businesses Help ensure a steady supply of skilled workers for Federal construction projects and Promote competition on Government contracts by allowing all contractors—including those who are non-union—to bid on contracts that require PLAs.   Could such PLAs have a positive impact in the context of the Greek industrial relations' system??

📣 Attention all ABC Members: This law affects YOUR business! On March 24, 2023, Governor Whitmer signed into law a bill reinstituting Michigan’s Prevailing Wage Act (the “Act”) that will take effect in February of 2024. The new Act will require every contractor and subcontractor in Michigan to pay the prevailing wage and benefit rates to employees working on most state funded construction projects. In preparation, Michigan’s Department of Labor & Economic Opportunity’s Wage and Hour Division is hosting a webinar to discuss the new Act's implementation and answer questions. https://lnkd.in/exfctefX

For contractors that work on federally funded infrastructure projects, it could serve as a much-needed refresher. The DOL updated the Davis-Bacon Act in October, in some cases increasing the wages employers need to pay on affected contracts. The day-long seminar will offer sessions on labor standard protections in the Davis-Bacon Act and the Service Contract Act, to include how the department sets and administers prevailing wage rules." Employers and unions have agreed a 4% pay rise for construction workers under the Building and Allied Trades Joint Industrial Council (BATJIC) agreement. The one year will come into effect from Monday 17 June 2024 and workers employed by small builders will also get an extra day of holiday. Brian Berry, Chief Executive of the FMB, said: “This year’s agreement represents a fair rise in the wage rates for the nation’s small builders, following another year of inflated prices. We believe this has struck the right balance between employers and staff, who are both seeing their costs rise. BATJIC, in agreement with Unite, also agreed to provide builders with one extra holiday day. “While the BATJIC agreement is completely voluntary, we know many FMB members choose to use it for guidance on their wage rates and other employment rights. “The agreement helps builders attract new staff and maintain their current workforce by guiding employers to offer competitive wages and a range of other employment benefits.” [Construction Enquirer] #employment #salary
