In the midst of heated discussions about the effectiveness of carbon credits, emerging research and ground-breaking initiatives like TREEO 🌱 Cooling the planet are focused on solutions that will advance our efforts for climate mitigation. While I acknowledge some of the skepticism, I think we shouldn’t get distracted and keep innovating for forestry as one of the major solutions. Recent findings from a study published in Springer Nature Group ("Nature") underscore that Nature-Based Climate Solution (NbCS) for carbon offsetting are not only theoretically sound but also practically essential. This clarity is key in a time where doubts are often fueled by unclear facts and misinterpretation. Insights to consider: 🌲 Solid Foundations: NbCS, and especially tropical reforestation offer a viable path for climate mitigation and biodiversity conservation. 🔍 Scientific Endorsement: Robust methodologies debunk criticisms against the effectiveness of carbon removals. 📊 Enhancing Trust with TREEO: Our approach tackles the dual challenges of trust and data quality on stored carbon. By providing tree growers with precise tools to measure each tree, TREEO ensures the collection of top quality data on tree growth and carbon sequestration on a regular basis. We’re convinced that increased transparency + sound project development + fair benefit sharing with the communities are key factors in increasing the trust in the forest carbon sector. ✅ I’d love to hear your thoughts: What would you like to understand better or learn in order to trust forest carbon more? Let’s discuss! Link to Nature study in the comments. #ClimateChange #Sustainability #CarbonCredits #Biodiversity #NatureConservation #TREEO

Nature-based Solutions are our best short to addressing the impacts of climate change. Any criticism about #CarbonProjects should be aimed at improving the entire process and not to undermine projects such as #REDD+ which directs funds to communities while conserving and protecting forests. #StandingTreesareValuable

🌱 At TREEO we believe that real climate impact can only be sustainable in the long term when it also has a transparent, positive socio-economic impact. But to restore trust in this market, we need a fair benefit sharing with the communities coupled with science, transparency, and precision of stored carbon. Just like we do at TREEO 🌱 Cooling the planet! 🌍 Just as our founder Johannes Schwegler shares, through sound project development and precise data of stored carbon, TREEO is enhancing trust in nature-based climate solutions #NbCS. 🌿 Read his post below and let us know what you think! Are NbCS on your #SustainabilityStrategy already? 🌱 #NatureBasedSolutions #NbS #ClimateChange #Sustainability

The voices of youth are critical in shaping the policies that will safeguard our planet. This is one area that Global Landscapes Forum (GLF) got it perfectly right in this year’s #glfafrica Global Landscape Forum themed “ GREENING THE AFRICA HORIZON” Involving youth in environmental policy-making ensures that future strategies are inclusive, sustainable, and reflect the realities of the communities we aim to protect. It is important to understand that if it’s going to happen then the youths and children must be at the centre of it. "We cannot turn back time, but we can grow forests, revive water sources, and bring back soils. We are the generation that can make peace with land", says the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), explaining the focus of the 2024 World Environment Day theme and the associated campaign: "Our Land, Our Future. We are #GenerationRestoration." This year's theme draws public attention to the urgency of restoring soils and increasing global resilience to droughts and desertification. "Our priority now must be on restoring ecosystems, replanting our forests, rewetting our marshes, and reviving our soils", said Elizabeth Mrema, the Deputy Executive Director of UNEP, at the launch of the global campaign. Soil protection is a top priority for The Navigator Company. On the approximately 107,000 hectares of certified forest we manage in mainland Portugal, we implement processes and actions that help mitigate possible impacts of forestry activities on soil quality. For example, we maintain leaf litter and cut residues on the ground, adjust the fertilization plan to the needs of the forest stand, use less intensive soil mobilization practices, and adapt the exploitation phase to weather and local conditions. These practices, among others, help increase organic matter levels in the soil, making it healthier and more resilient. https://lnkd.in/dDgmVWB #TheNavigatorCompany #WorldEnvironmentDay #GenerationRestoration #Soil

Today is International Day of Forests, a day dedicated to celebrating and raising awareness of the value and importance of forests. This year’s theme is Forests and Innovation: New Solutions for a Better World. With the ongoing battle against deforestation, the need for technological advancement to sustain reforestation efforts is at an unprecedented level. #ForestDay encourages countries to act with local, national, and international organizations that maintain activities related to forests. Coinciding with this year’s International Day of Forests, Hatfield’s Adinda Herdianti, Social Science Specialist and a member of Hatfield’s Human Environment Group, was invited to present to The University of British Columbia Master of International Forestry (MIF) program on Hatfield’s work on the Sunshine Coast Forest Landscape Plan and Public Engagement Process. Adinda’s presentation highlighted the importance of raising public awareness of forest landscape planning processes, while highlighting the many important social, community, and environmental benefits of forest ecosystems. Together, let us take a moment to appreciate the beauty and importance of forest ecosystems around the world, as they play a crucial role by purifying our air and water, preserving biodiversity, and serving as a shield against the impacts of climate change. “There is no Wi-Fi in the forest, but I promise you will find a better connection.” – Ralph Smart #ForestDay #InternationalDayOfForests2024 #Conservation #Biodiversity #Nature #Environment #SaveTheForests #SaveOurPlanet

🏞 After lengthy negotiations, the Environment Council has officially adopted the #NatureRestorationLaw. The regulation aims to restore at least 20% of the EU's land and sea areas by 2030, and all ecosystems in need by 2050. It sets legally binding targets to enhance biodiversity, address climate change, and mitigate natural disasters. Key points are: 🔴 Restoration of degraded ecosystems, including forests, wetlands, and marine habitats. 🔴 Specific measures to protect pollinators and improve urban green spaces. 🔴 National restoration plans required from member states, with progress monitoring. The regulation will now be published in the EU's Official Journal and will then come into effect, becoming directly applicable in all EU member states. By 2033, the European Commission will assess the regulation's implementation and its effects on the agricultural, fisheries, and forestry sectors, as well as its broader socio-economic impacts. 🌳 Read more in this Council press release: https://lnkd.in/eXRqEmS5 #nature #biodiversity #climate #climatechange
