Cousins play a unique role in making sure grandparents are taken care of. Here are some helpful tips and reminders on how cousins can collaborate to ensure their elders are cared for: - Stay Connected: Regular communication helps keep everyone informed about your grandparents' needs and well-being. - Divide Responsibilities: Share the load by assigning tasks based on each cousin's strengths, whether it's managing medical appointments, handling finances, or simply spending quality time. - Coordinate Visits: Plan visits so your grandparents always have someone around, ensuring they feel loved and supported. - Share Updates: Use group chats or emails to keep everyone in the loop about your grandparents' health and any changes in their care needs. - Emotional Support: Lean on each other for emotional support. Caring for aging grandparents can be challenging, and having a support system makes it easier. Together, we can make a significant impact on our grandparents' lives. If your grandparents need professional care, don't hesitate to reach out to Cobble Hill Health Center or Your Choice at Home for support and services. 📸 Sir Lodi #CousinsDay #FamilyCare #CobbleHillCares #YourChoiceAtHome #TogetherWeCare

Chief Physician @ American Hospital Association | Husband and Dad | Doctor | Author | Board at Mednition | Advisor at Concord Health Partners | #Triathlete
I'm an incredibly fortunate guy. I have an amazing family, a fulfilling and healthy life, and a rewarding career. I am thankful for all of it – but this #Thanksgiving, I want to share my thanks for America’s healthcare system – a system in which I started working in as an EMT over 20 years ago, and today get to see in its full spectrum of wonder in my work for the American Hospital Association. We often focus on the challenges we face in healthcare - but in doing so, we risk forgetting that liberty begets freedom - freedom of thought, freedom of action, and freedom to imagine a world beyond that which now exists. A world in which Dr. Robert Guthrie imagined universal newborn screening... and that six decades later I've used to diagnose infants with multiple conditions that left untreated could lead to death. Instead, catching these conditions in infancy now allows countless thousands of babies to get to live totally normal lives. In 1963 even the President's premature son couldn't survive a condition known as "hyaline membrane disease" - since then, innumerable advances in care for preemies makes today's world one in which Patrick Kennedy would have a nearly 100% chance of surviving. As a neonatologist I've cared for infants born three times earlier and six times smaller than he was - the youngest was born four months early… the smallest weighed less than a can of soda. So today I give thanks to all those who spend long nights and early mornings both making miracles happen today and asking themselves what unimagined miracles we can create tomorrow. In the immortal words of Arthur O'Shaugnessy (or Willy Wonka if you're so inclined): We are the music makers, And we are the dreamers of dreams. #healthcare #hospitals #physicianleadership #physician #health

Our paper on mistreatment by health care providers during childbirth was published in JAMA Network Open. Leveraging a large, representative, multi-state sample, we found that more than 1 in 8 (13.4%) people with a live birth in six states and NYC in 2020 experienced mistreatment by health care providers during childbirth. We additionally assess the most common types of mistreatment and who is most at risk. 🔗 Full paper can be accessed here: https://lnkd.in/edShrjre I’m thankful for the support and feedback from the study PIs Dr. Jamie Daw, Dr. Heidi Allen, Dr. Kristen Underhill, and that of the co-authors Dr. Golleen Samari, and Dr. Janice Aubey.

Effective Communication Advocate ✸ Equipping Leaders to Efficiently Navigate Difficult Conversations ✸ Interpersonal Communication Coach ✸ Trainer ✸ Speaker
Discussing end of life is one of the most difficult conversations to have. Many (I might even say most) of us don’t want to think about dying, let along talk about it. But it is also one of the most important conversations to have. These two resources are designed to make the process a little more approachable. I’m adding resources to my website to facilitate challenging conversations, and there are more resources there for navigating this one. Link in comments
Compassionate support and guidance to navigate the final stages of life | Planning and final wishes | Grief support and resources | Dementia support | End-of-life education
The Gift of Choice: Discussing End-of-Life Care with the Five Wishes and the The Death Deck! National Healthcare Decisions Day is TODAY, and what better way to celebrate than by giving yourself (and your loved ones) the gift of informed choice? This past Sunday, I had the pleasure of co-facilitating a discussion alongside hospice chaplain Melissa Moore, M.Div. at St James United Church of Christ in Limerick. Together, we guided a thoughtful conversation centered around the Five Wishes document, a powerful tool that allows individuals to express their preferences for medical care, treatment options, and spiritual support at the end of life. The Five Wishes document covers a wide range of topics, from the kind of medical treatment you desire, who you want to make decisions on your behalf if you can't speak for yourself to how you wanted to be treated. By having these wishes documented, you can ensure your voice is heard and your loved ones are empowered to make choices that align with your values. The Death Deck is a game and conversation starter about all things related to feelings and thoughts about death and dying! It's a wonderful tool to help have these important conversations! Open Dialogue, Empowered Choices! The discussion was both informative and inspiring. It was a space for open dialogue, where participants felt comfortable asking questions and sharing their thoughts on a sometimes-difficult topic. National Healthcare Decisions Day serves as a powerful reminder that talking about end-of-life care is not something to shy away from. It's an essential part of ensuring your wishes are respected, and it can provide peace of mind for both you and your loved ones. As a death doula, I'm passionate about facilitating these conversations and helping individuals navigate the often-complex world of end-of-life planning. Are you interested in learning more about the Five Wishes document or discussing your end-of-life care wishes? Please don't hesitate to reach out to me directly. Together, we can make sure our voices are heard and our wishes are known. #NationalHealthcareDecisionsDay #FiveWishes #EndofLifeCare #EOLC #DeathDoula #PlanningMatters #PeaceofMind #CompassionateCare #AdvanceCarePlanning #compassionatecrossings
