🚨 Deepfakes and the Truth Crisis🚨 Donald Trump’s AI-generated images of Taylor Swift endorsing him show a big problem: there is no way to fully verify what is a deepfake or what is real. 🔍 Why it matters: ☑️No Federal Standards: Lack of clear regulations means deepfakes can spread unchecked. ☑️Verification Issues: Many take deepfakes at face value, especially when posted by influential figures like Trump and Musk. ☑️Need for Fact-Checking: We must demand better verification and transparency. Deepfakes are becoming a major issue. At mintBlue we believe in decentralised solutions that can tackle this problem head on. How are you currently navigating the online deepfake dilemma? Gaps in AI robocall ban boost pressure on Congress, election officials: As the election season heats up, regulatory focus is shifting toward the use of artificial intelligence in campaigns. Recently, the FCC banned robocalls with AI-generated voices, a move supported by various experts as a step towards curbing deceptive digital content. However, this has raised awareness of the still unregulated AI-generated images and videos in politics. Amidst rising concerns, the FEC considers updates to its rules, while advocates push for more comprehensive regulations. Meanwhile, companies like Meta are enhancing their detection of AI-generated political content. As our digital landscape evolves, the need for clear guidelines to safeguard elections and consumer protection becomes increasingly crucial. Read more:

This is disturbing. The first clear example I've seen of obvious AI disinformation I've seen in this election cycle and it's just the start. We need to think deeply and quickly about the idea that voices and faces should be inalienable from a person unless they give permission for re-use. Without this protection fraud will be widespread. We also need to think deeply and quickly about how we can reach consensus about how we will label and monitor the spread of false and deliberately misleading imagery, without this protection we will be putting gasoline on conspiracy theories and misinformation. A legal framework is urgently needed for both and it requires international cooperation and buy-in from social media giants. #generativeai #deepfake https://lnkd.in/ew2pxbag

Matthew Feeney, CPS Head of Tech and Innovation, writes for CapX on the latest calls for AI regulation 👇 "Deepfake content is too young for us to gauge what its long-term impacts on elections will be. But we should consider that one effect might be that the spread of deepfake content makes the average voter more sceptical about online content. Another effect that we are already seeing is institutions such as newspapers, AI labs and governments using technology to identify deepfake content. "Deepfake detection methods are not perfect, and there will always be gullible people out there. But their existence shouldn’t cloud our judgement. The fact that we have navigated previous eras of technological advancement without democracies falling apart should provide some reassurance. While it might not be in their interest, MPs must resist the urge to over-regulate and jeopardise one of the most important freedoms we enjoy: making fun of politicians." https://lnkd.in/edASiyme

From Russia With Generative AI-Powered Love — The Department of Justice found Russian intelligence officials worked directly with RT staff on an "AI-enhanced" bot farm pushing pro-Kremlin narratives. 🕵️ Russia Today (now RT) employees worked with Russian intelligence officials to push pro-Kremlin narratives on X using a “Generative AI-enhanced social media bot farm," according to a press release, affidavits and a joint advisory released by the Department of Justice with intelligence partners. ⛔ The Justice Department seized two associated web domains and worked with X to remove nearly 1,000 accounts that made up the bot farm on X. 🚨 A joint advisory from US, Canadian, and Netherlands intelligence agencies warned social media companies about Meliorator, the software Russia used to manage the bot farm by creating and masking social media personas, developing messages and posting content on X.
