ASTM Additive Manufacturing Center of Excellence’s Post

💡Highlights from the ASTM AM CoE 12th Snapshot Workshop at the MTC - Manufacturing Technology Centre in Coventry, UK! We kicked off the day with opening remarks from Martin White of ASTM International, followed by a series of engaging presentations: 1️⃣ Steven Hall, MTC - Manufacturing Technology Centre Steve outlined the progress in powder lifecycle management standards in AM, emphasizing the need for clear strategies in contamination, recycling, and spreadability, where the MTC has led efforts over the past decade. 2️⃣ Harry T., DEEP Harry addressed the hurdles in qualifying and certifying large steel structures made by DED-Wire AM for subsea habitats, emphasizing the need for standards in material specifications, hybrid processes, and post-processing techniques. 3️⃣ Tom Bertenshaw, GKN Aerospace Tom highlighted GKN Aerospace’s work on NDT inspection methods for DED-Wire AM in aerospace, pointing out the need for standardized qualification guidance. 4️⃣ Eddie Andrews, 3T Additive Manufacturing Ltd Eddie shared how 3T-AM transformed its business by focusing on a strategic group of customers, aiming for carbon neutrality by 2030, and stressing the importance of unified international standards. 5️⃣ Philipp Ziegler, ASM | Additive Surfaces Philipp introduced a vapour smoothing post-process technology for polymer AM parts, delivering cost efficiency while adhering to ISO/ASTM standards. 6️⃣ Anne-Françoise OBATON, LNE Anne discussed X-Ray CT and Resonance Ultrasound Spectroscopy as key NDE methods in AM, noting X-CT's limitations regarding cost, part size, and material density. Stay tuned for more updates! 💡 Co-Chairs: Benjamin Dutton, Ruaridh Mitchinson, Robert H., Nima Shamsaei, Martin White, Mohsen Seifi #AMStandards #AdditiveManufacturing #Workshop
