Our latest paper on a pioneering surface characterization method for additive manufacturing has just been published! 🚀 Traditional inspection methods struggle with the inherent inhomogeneity of additively manufactured parts. Our novel approach overcomes these limitations, ensuring precise and comprehensive quality assessment across complex geometries. By utilizing XCT scans, our method automates the evaluation of surface roughness and near-surface porosity for additively manufactured freeform parts, enabling thorough analysis of the entire surface and determining mean and extreme values of roughness parameters for statistical evaluation. This innovative approach visualizes the spatial distribution of roughness parameters, allowing the identification of function-critical regions and facilitating targeted improvements. By correlating geometry and build process parameters with roughness metrics, our method offers valuable insights into process-structure-property relationships and evaluates correlations between near-surface porosity and surface roughness, enhancing understanding of the PBF-LB process. 🏭 This research not only enhances safety and reliability but also paves the way for more efficient and precise additive manufacturing processes. 💥 Read the full paper here and discover how our findings can revolutionize surface quality inspection! https://lnkd.in/ei9qhAeG #AdditiveManufacturing #CorrelativeCharacterization #SurfaceCharacterization #XCT #LaserBeamPowderBedFusion #QualityControl #Research #Innovation

How reliable is #additivemanufacturing? Its an important question, because it drives confidence in the adoption of AM for end-use parts. So we have decided to share significant amount of data (>1700 specimen results) in the hope that it can help more engineers to see what we already see, which is that AM is a very consistent and repeatable technology which delivers consistent mechanical properties as well as new design possibilities. Please share as widely as you can and #postyourAMdata
Do you think sharing data can help the adoption of AM? If so - please share this post widely. We are often surprised that there is still a lack of understanding of what is possible with #additivemanufacturing. Often people talk about the need to share data to build confidence in the technology, but rarely does it happen. So we are going to 'show you ours' without demanding to see yours. This is what the repeatability of static mechanical properties of Titanium Ti6Al4V produced by laser powder bed fusion looks like during real production at APWORKS over 8 years, between 3 machines and many material batches. In total this is >1700 test specimens produced alongside production builds.
