Unconventional thinking is often blocked by those who cannot understand a new idea or who fear the unknown. But unconventional thinking is what is needed when conventional thinking has not solved the problem. Hire leaders who have a track record of listening to their teams and bringing innovation to their organization.

Worth a watch. This policy might not be applicable everywhere, but there are certainly lessons we can draw from it. Sometimes all people need is an opportunity and a bit of trust. What’s great about this policy is that it doesn’t just help individuals get back on their feet and out of homelessness; it supports their families and feeds back into the economy - and that connects to better educational, employment, health (physical and mental) outcomes for their children and communities. It helps to contribute to a more stable home, safer communities, and lower crime rates. Of course, I’m simplifying the connections between these social/policy challenges for the sake of this post; but socioeconomic inequalities are key predictors of so many important life outcomes, and making these connections is key to improving them. All this to say that seeing initiatives like this in a global policy context that can sometimes feel hopeless offers some much needed inspiration and encouragement for future policy solutions.

"How can we bring folks into the economic mainstream? How can we bring folks into society? How can we give people hope?" These are the driving questions behind Greyston Bakery's open hiring plan – a 'no questions asked' hiring policy that eliminates barriers to employment for those who need it most. One might assume that open hiring may create performance and profitability risks, but Greyston has demonstrated that it's feasible to apply this model to operate a profitable, purpose-driven business that benefits society. Greyston's President, CEO, and dear friend, Joseph Kenner reminds us how transformative a second chance can be. How being purpose-driven can give a deeper meaning to a business. Joe, I look forward to visiting Greyston soon and learning more from your inspiring work. #WEF #Greyston #GreystonFoundation #socialmobility #economicempowerement #purposedriven #transformation

🚀 Exciting news - Our #FuturethatWorks campaign is gaining momentum. Inside Housing's August edition features an article highlighting the need for change in the way we support people into work, especially social housing tenants. The article emphasises that the current system has fallen short, and it's imperative for housing associations, employers, and the government to collaborate and explore innovative ways to increase labor market participation, engage individuals further from work, and enhance job retention, security, and progression. We couldn't agree more. It's time for a paradigm shift in employment support. By working together, we can build a brighter future for everyone, creating inclusive opportunities that empower individuals and strengthen our communities. A major hurdle for many communities is the scarcity of capital needed for implementation of strategies. The Alliance for Rural Impact recognizes this obstacle and offers support to help businesses enhance efficiency and cultivate a more robust workforce for the future. In 2022, ARI collaborated with Helena Harbor and Phillips County Economic Development to boost worker engagement and reinforce workforce assistance on both individual and community scales. By serving Southeast Arkansas, we have linked employees to promising opportunities in diverse and consistently struggling regions. With our extensive expertise in funding programs and as an EDA Strategy Development Grantee, ARI will explore effective approaches to enhance worker involvement and reinforce workforce support, fostering a more resilient and robust workforce. #economicdevelopment #businessdevelopment #community #communityimpact #workforcesolutions #workforcesupport #businesssupport #communitysupport #ruraldevelopment #ruralcommunities #ruralempowerment #ruralentrepreneurship #rural #mississippi #arkansas

Housing authorities have numerous strategies in their toolbox to advance equitable outcomes for residents. Reviewing organizational policies can help build equity into your organization's operations strategy, but what type of policies can you implement? Check out these tips: - Review your admission criteria for bias or strict lookback periods that prohibit formally incarcerated individuals from achieving stability - Consider establishing goals for awarding contracts to minority-owned businesses - Explore adjusting payment standards to make it feasible for families to use their vouchers in neighborhoods of opportunity Want to learn more about how you can address these equity concerns in your work?
