When one of Dr Disrespects responses was: “...I get it, it’s a hot topic but this has been settled, no wrongdoing was acknowledged and they paid out the whole contract.” The crisis management spidey senses weren’t just tingling anymore they were screaming and running in circles on fire. It's no surprise that the studio he cofounded distanced themselves from him. A lot of folks are questioning why Twitch/Amazon didn’t do more. As a crisis comms expert and former Amazonian (AWSer), it's clear they prioritize protection of the company and brand above all else. I can hear the convo between leadership in my head now: “should we turn this to the authorities?” “If we do- then we are admitting we let this happen and people will be wondering who else we might be covering for.” “We are opening ourselves up for possible lawsuits…” “If it comes out he did this before we could be liable for not doing a background check.” “If we turn it over to the authorities without them asking for it or having a warrant we are going to lose the trust of everyone using our systems because privacy.” “What if we just fire him and tell him we know what he did- that should keep him from saying anything, and if it ever does come out we are covered cause we did fire him!” This is the exact sort of ethical situation I talk to my students about- where a company is in a grey zone of what is legally okay and what is morally/ethically right. I will let my legal friends go over what Twitch’s legal responsibilities might have been… Read more: [Link to the article] #CrisisCommunication #GamingIndustry #Twitch #Amazon

Another example would be r/applevision (we never visited it, but we could use it just as an example). Apple presented it, someone during the WWDC opened that (while all other people watched the streaming) and now does this mean that who is admin on such subreddit is the reason why such subreddit "get famous"? Not directly, because again it depends from various points. He was just quicker to open such subreddit ... 7) Last point that is always written "they do it for free": a) no one is saying you need to do that (like no one is saying subscribers need to upvotes, comments etc., except those who really are asking that directly; we never and will never do that for example) b) no one said you need to do it for free too c) if you are not happy about that, you can even stop (there are so many admins active and after few weeks just inactive on their subreddits, but active as users on other subreddits not owned by them) d) remember what Steve wrote about the moderator bots 8) Still strange that Reddit allows other things on such subreddit they mentioned, but they removed and readded the admins from this post, even if they just asked that to the community. To be correct, they should do it with all subreddits, not just few pick… https://buff.ly/3E4dofW

Having heard the news of the latest round of redundancies at Twitch, if you're in the UK it's important to know your rights, understand how the process *should* work and what you need to do to get ahead of the curve. With that in mind, it's important that you do the following: 1) Unionise. Both the CWU and Prospect offer free legal advice at every stage of the redundancy process if you join before it starts. This is incredibly important. 2) Read up on how the redundancy process *should* work. I say this because, in my experience, some employers do not follow employment law - https://lnkd.in/eFcbvFCF 3) Look at your options if the worst happens. See what other job options are out there, look into retraining and so on. Get busy! 4) Talk to your colleagues. You are not alone. My redundancy adventure last year was 60 of the most emotionally and mentally draining days of my adult life. It was incredibly frustrating and scary in equal measure, and if it wasn't for the support of my colleagues around me and the union I was with, I wouldn't have come out of it as well as I did. https://lnkd.in/e438pdad

This is ridiculous. A group of watchdog organizations are calling on the U.S. DOJ to probe Alphabet to determine whether YouTube‘s parent company uses anticompetitive tactics to dominate viewership on TV screens. In a letter (https://lnkd.in/eKvyVNfm) sent to DOJ's antitrust chief, a coalition of 11 regulatory groups argues that YouTube improves its "prospects for living room dominance" through questionable means. The letter, in part, claims, "YouTube has a decade-long record of using its dominance across numerous markets to crowd out competitors, lock in customers, and force the purchase of bundled services" due to the pre-installation of YouTube on smartphones and smart TVs. Apple pre-loads the stock app on my phone, but that doesn't mean I have to use it. The same is true with YouTube. There are over 100 video streaming services in the US alone that consumers have to pick and choose from. No one is forced to use YouTube or locked into using it if they choose not to. There is a lot of choice in the market, which YouTube rightly points out in their rebuttal to the letter: https://lnkd.in/eW7nW_3N Some of the 11 watchdog organizations don't disclose all of their funding sources, so it's not entirely clear who's behind them or what politics are involved. Also, it's unclear why an organization like Social Security Works is one of the organizations involved when its focus is to "protect and expand Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid; lower drug prices; ensure economic justice for all." -- #streamingmedia #DOJ #youtube #AVOD

Alright, let’s talk about Jeff Green for a second. The self-anointed anti-Google crusader, charging in like some caped vigilante, shaking his fist at monopolies while quietly plotting to set up his own empire. Behind all the cheerleading for "breaking up Google," The Trade Desk is positioning itself to be the next power player in connected TV (CTV), quietly stacking the deck in ways that are starting to feel…familiar. Brilliant? Sure. Borderline evil genius? Definitely. But before you start handing him the keys to the kingdom, you might want to look closer at how those chess pieces are moving. The Trade Desk’s rise is no fluke; it’s a calculated play for CTV dominance. From Project Bridgewater to Unified ID 2.0, Jeff Green’s got big plans, and they're not just about buying ads—they’re about owning the whole damn system. First-party data, smart TV operating systems, controlling identity across platforms—it’s a page right out of Google’s playbook. Chris Vanderhook from Viant even went so far as to call Green’s strategy “pure evil genius,” accusing him of trying to monopolize the CTV space with a full-stack approach. But hey, why settle for playing David when you can go full Goliath, right? If you’re wondering just how deep this rabbit hole goes, the full article, quoting Chris Vanderhook and Jeff Green, is in our newsletter this week. Dive in and see for yourself how the lines between anti-monopoly crusader and empire-builder are getting blurrier by the minute. #ctv #adtech

On Friday nights, I remember taking trips to Blockbuster with my friends. It was an event. We’d stroll around the store for half an hour, just taking our time looking through all of the options and eventually choose a couple of movies to rent for the weekend (and buy some snacks). Then, we’d pick up a pizza on the way home and watch the movies we rented. Sometimes the movies were amazing. Other times not so much. Either way, it was always fun. It was a simple, tangible experience - physically going to the store to rent a movie. One that I miss and find myself feeling nostalgic about from time to time. Don’t get me wrong. These days, I love streaming my favorite movies and shows on-demand like everyone else. But sometimes I reminisce about the days when technology was simpler. Like… Going to FYE to discover new music. Flipping through the book that came with every CD. Taking care of my tamagotchi. T9 texting on flip phones. Using the corded house phone. Actually memorizing my friends phone numbers. The sound of dial-up internet. Being excited when me and my BFF emailed each other at the same time. There was just something so special about those times for me. And while I admire how technology has evolved to simplify our lives and instantly gratify us, I can’t help but feel like it’s also taken something precious away. P.S. - What’s something you feel nostalgic about? #linkedincommunity
