TRAINING MANAGER NDT Level-III (UT, RT, ET, IR, ML, MT, PT,VT,LT) GUL LEVEL-IIXB , LEVEL-II RMS,PAUT,TOFD,
Changes in SNT-TC-1A page 3 8.1.4 For NDT Level I and II personnel, a composite grade should be determined by simple averaging of the results of the General, Specific, and Practical examinations described in the following sections. For NDT Level III personnel, the composite grade should be determined by simple averaging of the results of the Basic, Method, Specific, and Practical (if applicable) examinations described in the following sections. 8.1.7 The employer who purchases outside services is responsible for ensuring that the examination services meet the requirements of the employer's written practice and are documented. 8.2 Vision Examinations 8.2.1 Near-Vision Acuity. The examination should ensure natural or corrected (no pharmacological agents) near-distance acuity in at least one eye such that the applicant is capable of reading a minimum of Jaeger No. 2 or equivalent type and size letter at the distance designated on the chart but not less than 12 in. (30.5 cm) on a standard Jaeger test chart. The ability to perceive an Ortho-Rater minimum 8 or similar test pattern is also acceptable. This should be administered annually. 8.2.1.1 Pharmacological agents (eye drops) that would improve or enhance visual acuity at any distance shall not be used 8.3 General (Written for NDT Level-I and II) 8.3.1 The general examination should address the basic principles of the applicable method. 8.3.2 In preparing for the examinations the NDT Level-III should select or devise appropriate questions concerning the appropriate method and techniques described by the employer’s written practice and the applicable elements outlined in ANSI/ASNT CP-105. 8.3.3 The minimum number of questions that should be given is shown in Table 8.3.3. 8.3.4 A valid ACCP, ASNT, or ASNT 9712 Level-II certificate may be accepted as fulfilling the general examination criteria for each applicable method if the NDT Level-III has determined that the ASNT examinations meet the requirements of the employer’s written practice. The acceptance should be documented. The Power of Digital Radiography in NDT As a seasoned NDT Level 3 technician, I've witnessed the evolution of various non-destructive testing (NDT) methods firsthand. Digital radiography (DR) stands out as a true game-changer, offering unparalleled benefits for inspecting a wide range of materials across different industries. *DR in Action: A Case Study from the Aerospace Industry* Let me share a recent example from my experience in the aerospace industry. We were tasked with inspecting a critical wing component on an aging aircraft. Traditional film radiography, while reliable, had some limitations. Processing the film took time, and subtle crack indications could be missed during manual interpretation. DR offered the perfect solution. The X-ray source and detector captured a digital image of the component in real-time. We could manipulate the image on the computer screen, adjusting contrast and brightness to enhance details. This digital manipulation revealed a hairline crack at a weld joint, a potential safety hazard that might have gone unnoticed on film. The benefits of DR went beyond just crack detection. The digital format allowed for instant sharing of the image with engineers for further analysis. This expedited the decision-making process, minimizing aircraft downtime and ensuring a faster return to service. *Advantages of DR: A Technician's Perspective* Beyond this specific case, DR offers several advantages that make it a valuable tool for NDT professionals like myself: *Improved Image Quality:* Digital images provide superior clarity and resolution compared to film. This allows for easier detection of subtle defects, even in complex weld geometries. *Enhanced Image Manipulation:* DR software allows for real-time manipulation of the image, enabling us to adjust contrast, brightness, and zoom levels. This pinpoints even the faintest indications for a more thorough inspection. *Reduced Radiation Exposure:* DR systems often utilize lower radiation doses compared to film radiography. This translates to increased safety for both technicians and the inspected object. *Faster Turnaround Time:* Digital images are readily available for analysis after exposure, eliminating the film processing wait time. This translates to faster inspection turnaround times, which is crucial in many industries. *Environmental Friendliness:* DR eliminates the need for chemical processing associated with traditional film radiography, minimizing environmental impact. *Archiving and Documentation:* Digital images can be easily archived and retrieved, creating a readily accessible history of inspections for future reference. *DR Applications Beyond Aerospace* The benefits of DR extend far beyond the aerospace industry. It's a valuable tool for NDT professionals across various sectors, including: *Welding Inspection:* DR is used extensively to verify weld integrity in pipelines, pressure vessels, and other critical structures.

"Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in!" Famously quoted by Michael Corleone in The Godfather III (the second installment in the franchise is best, in my opinion) and how I felt when I managed the impossible in finding Aerospace techs last time I 'begged' you lovely lot for your help, and now I've got another handful of challenging (impossible) vacancies. I'm working on some seriously tricky assignments right now and would dearly appreciate your help in reaching out to your network, or I fear my next film quote will come from "Falling Down"... Here are the unicorn roles I'm trying to sort: ❗️Aerospace L2 digital radiographer, Midlands/South UK (EN4179 OR NAS410) or part OJT accepted ❗️Aerospace L2 ET, UT & PT (EN4179) contractors, UK wide, excellent rates + accommodation ❗️Aerospace techs L2 (any method considered, but preferably on-wing experienced), UK wide ❗️ Aerospace X-ray techs L2, Hampshire, part OJT in film considered, too Any help is greatly appreciated; the Aerospace side of NDT is in the worst state I've seen it (in terms of lack of qualified techs) in the 20 years of doing this job, and companies are either flat out or at breaking point. Seriously. As usual, get in touch on here, or email me on: [email protected] Thanks a million! #ndt #ndtinspection #ndtjobs #ndtinspector #radiography #xray #digitalradiography #aerospace #aircraft #imgoingslightlymad
