We’re very excited to announce our investment in Obran Cooperative. Obran is a worker-owned cooperative growing profitable, useful, and impactful businesses that serve its members, customers, and communities. The Obran team knows that the traditional methods of addressing income and wealth inequality—minimum wage, unions, progressive taxation, guaranteed income, and more—aren’t enough to bridge America’s inequality and wealth gap. Obran gives workers increased control and influence over business operations, leading to better social, financial, and long-term economic outcomes. How are they doing it? By building a business, platform, and community focused on worker-ownership—a proven path to economic stability and upward mobility for historically marginalized communities. At Acumen America we pride ourselves on impact. Obran makes life- and community-changing impact by giving workers more power and agency to break down America’s wealth gap and inequities. The company currently serves 500 workers across the country and will use new investment to expand further. Read more about Obran here: https://www.obran.coop/

We are thrilled to share that Obran Cooperative has received investment from Acumen America! At Obran Cooperative, we are deeply committed to transforming economic and social equity through worker-ownership. This model empowers workers, providing significant voice in business operations, and translating to more equitable outcomes. Worker-ownership is a critical tool in the struggle for equity. It’s a continuation of a long tradition of striving for justice and self-determination, much like the efforts of my ancestors who fought for freedom and equality. With Acumen America’s investment, we are poised to expand our impact. Currently, we serve workers nationwide, and with this support, we aim to extend the benefits of worker-ownership to more communities. As we pause on Juneteenth, we invite you to join us in reflection. Let’s continue to question and improve the systems we create to honor the legacy of those who fought before us. Thank you, Acumen America, for joining us on this journey to create a more inclusive and equitable economy. In Solidarity. #WorkerOwnership #CooperativeEconomy #EconomicEquity #AcumenAmerica #Obran #ImpactInvesting #Juneteenth #Solidarity

Devolution is the transfer of powers and funding from national to local government. The proposed devolution deal for Hull and East Yorkshire includes over £400million of additional funding to invest in local priorities. The councils’ proposal looks to: 1. Provide new and additional money and resources to invest in the economy, communities and places, with the promise of more in future spending cycles. 2. Support the creation of accessible jobs, addressing the long-term challenges for people living in the area, particularly in more deprived communities, such as part of Hull, Goole, Bridlington and Withernsea. 3. Increased local decision-making on investments affecting the area. 4. Create new and enhanced relationships with Government, helping to directly influence decisions affecting the area. 5. NMSDC is deeply concerned about a federal judge's recent decision to grant an injunction on the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (USDOT) Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) program. This ruling undermines vital efforts to ensure economic inclusion for minority and disadvantaged businesses in transportation and infrastructure sectors. Now is the time to stand together in defense of programs that promote Economic Inclusion and Minority Business success. Affordable Housing Developer - Operations - Business Development- Vice President of the Board - Mentor - Doctor of Business Administration Candidate
🏡🌆 Empowering Communities: The Crucial Role of Input and Involvement in LIHTC and NMTC 🌆🏡 In the world of affordable housing and economic development, community input and involvement are the cornerstones of creating lasting change. 🤝💼 Low-Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC) and New Markets Tax Credits (NMTC) have the potential to transform struggling neighborhoods into thriving hubs of opportunity. But to ensure these programs truly make a difference, we must prioritize the voices and needs of the communities they aim to serve. 🏙️🌟 Why is community input so essential? 🧐 1️⃣ Tailored Solutions: Communities understand their unique challenges and strengths better than anyone. By actively involving them in the decision-making process, we can design targeted solutions that address their specific needs. 2️⃣ Ownership and Pride: When communities have a say in their own development, they take pride in the positive changes happening around them. This sense of ownership fosters long-term sustainability. 3️⃣ Building Trust: Community involvement builds trust between residents, developers, and government agencies. It creates a collaborative atmosphere where everyone is working towards a common goal. 4️⃣ Inclusivity: Involving communities ensures that no one is left behind. We can focus on areas that need help the most and find innovative ways to support businesses and stimulate economic growth. Let's remember that the true power of LIHTC and NMTC lies not just in tax incentives, but in the ability to transform lives and neighborhoods. 🌆💪 By actively engaging with and listening to the communities that need help, we can pave the way for a brighter future filled with opportunity, prosperity, and a stronger sense of unity. 🌟🏡✨ #CommunityDevelopment #LIHTC #NMTC #CommunityEngagement #Empowerment

Cooperatives around the world operate according to the same set of core principles and values. The third cooperative principle is Members' Economic Participation. Members contribute equitably to, and democratically control, the capital of their cooperative. At least part of that capital remains the common property of the cooperative. As a business we are very supportive to the Mayoral Devolution deal announced as part of the Chancellor's Autumn Statement on 22nd November 2023. Along with the wider regional business community, we have been asking for the 2 local councils, Hull City Council and East Riding of Yorkshire Council to work collaboratively to work with Government to create a Mayoral Devolution Deal. Devolution is the transfer of powers and funding from national to local government. The proposed devolution deal for Hull and East Yorkshire includes over £400million of additional funding to invest in local priorities. The councils’ proposal looks to: ✔ Provide new and additional money and resources to invest in the economy, communities and places, with the promise of more in future spending cycles. ✔ Support the creation of accessible jobs, addressing the long-term challenges for people living in the area, particularly in more deprived communities, such as part of Hull, Goole, Bridlington and Withernsea. ✔ Increased local decision-making on investments affecting the area. ✔ Create new and enhanced relationships with Government, helping to directly influence decisions affecting the area. ✔ Provide the certainty for more investment by the private sector in the area.
