There was a loud "POP"! I never realized that pool floatation devices were so dangerous! There was some confusion but as I looked down I knew what just happened. Flashback to 2006 and I was interviewing for my first medical device position. I was nervous, but excited to be meeting real medical device engineers working on a novel product. The company was Barosense and I was meeting with the CEO. After the usual questions we started discussing some real world design/manufacturing issues. He asked me about a medical balloon, donut shaped, that kept on failing at high pressures. He asked me where I thought the failure would occur. I thought a bit and proceeded to explain my thoughts for the next few minutes. I explained my engineering reasons why and how I thought it would fail. I stood on my reasoning and held firm. I explained that I was thinking with my gut but felt my explanation was solid. I was then informed that I was wrong. The donut shaped balloon had a very specific location of failure, and it wasnt where I indicated. I thought I just killed any shot of getting this position and I was thoroughly embarrassed. They hired me. I spent 7 years with that company. I later asked them why they hired me even though I had messed up that question. They told me that I was very passionate in the way I explained my thoughts. They liked my enthusiasm in finding an answer. And, at the end I was able to say that I didn't know and was open to learn why. That moment was very impactful to me. It taught me that I may never know every little thing about everything but enthusiasm, tenacity and humility go a long way in solving a problem. I reflect on that to this day. Thank you Dan Balbierz After today's "POP", I looked down at my daughter's innertube and I knew exactly where it had failed. #designfox #medicaldevice #designwithpurpose #medicalballoon #productdevelopment #meddev

There are 3 levels of product work: 1) Impact 2) Execution 3) Optics Each is important. AND Everyone has a default level they enjoy. One mistake I made pretty much throughout my career was to downplay the role of Optics and to tell myself the story that my Impact & Execution will speak for itself. So for others who are like me, here’s a 3 minute video on How to Get Better at Managing Optics: https://lnkd.in/gra9aDrd

What curious problems do our customers encounter when developing electronics? After all these years in the business, little surprises me anymore. However, sometimes one couldn't come up with these scenarios if they tried. It happens surprisingly often that a customer has a product that they use in production or even mass-produce, but don't own any documentation for. The reason? "Our technician died, moved away, we had an ugly argument, he threw the computer and phone out the window, never to be heard from again..." As long as something doesn't need to be changed, they don't run out of XY transistors or need another paper from the test lab, it works great. Then we're here - we'll redraw the thing, salvage it, improve it. And the new documentation will be yours, licensed and legally sound. So that if we get swept away by big water, you can continue to work with someone else. That's what we pride ourselves on: intellectual property must belong to the customer, always. #egmedical #researchanddevelopment

Two things that I suck at and I really wish everyone learns early in their career is the value of networking and the value of optics. It isn’t about peacocking, it is about visibility of your work. For yourself and for your team, truly think about the platforms that are available to you to make your work visible. Some of my gremlins manifested as * They are all so busy, I shouldn’t waste their precious time * I was hired so they do not have to think about all this so I shouldn’t bring it up * This is too small to bother anyone with * If there isn’t a decision to be made, why waste their time with random updates There is a fine line between too much and too little. Do yourself and your team a favour and find that line.

Do you know how OPT combines 2D and 3D imaging technologies for #inspection? Look at this Machine Vision, the Six-Sided #Detection Solution for Cell Blue Film Quality. This solution is mainly applied to the quality inspection of finished cell blue films, where surface defects are rich, and high inspection speed and precision are required. Different #imageprocessing methods are used for various blue film defects, such as dedicated nail detection algorithm, top cover welding detection algorithm, scratch detection algorithm, etc., which can accurately detect and classify blue film defects.
