The Federal Government has created the Nature Finance Council to try and redirect private #capital towards #naturerepair and 'solve nature-related issues'. But they also want to grow a billion trees by 2030 for #climate, #jobs and #growth . Even #WWF want to reforest 10 million hectares of Australia’s degraded agricultural land. What about an approach that promotes & prioritises co-benefits? A #regenerative, #naturepositive model of #forestry could leverage investment growth in #renewable materials & wood-dependent technologies to help drive additional #investment in #nature and help embed #biodiversity in the growing #climatesmart #circular #bioeconomy . Regenerative forestry works to diversify and future-proof tree plantations so that they function more like natural forests, and generate perpetual, resilient systems of wood production and habitat. These 'working' forests are harvested and managed on a selective & sustainable basis. They never need be clear-felled (or replanted). They can therefore be used to protect, connect and enhance existing #ecological assets and be successfully integrated with other enterprises, increasing the scope and scale of opportunities for nature repair in #agricultural landscapes. Because these high-functioning forest assets provide a broader suite of products and services than plantations, they can also help de-risk & expand investment opportunities in the #forestry and #wood-products sector.

"As restoring drained peatlands is one of the most cost-effective ways to reduce emissions in the agricultural sector, EU countries must restore at least 30% of drained peatlands by 2030 (at least a quarter shall be rewetted), 40% by 2040 and 50% by 2050 (where at least one-third shall be rewetted). DIRECTIVE ON CARBON CREDIT MANAGEMENT FOR NATIONALLY DETERMINED CONTRIBUTIONS IMPLEMENTATION Directive No. 13/CT-TTg, recently issued by the Prime Minister on May 02, 2024, aims to strengthen carbon credit management to fulfill Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC). Vietnam has revised its NDC to uphold international commitments for emissions reduction, aligning with goals outlined in COP26. Implementing NDC obligations falls under nations' responsibilities to comply with climate agreements, covering emissions reduction targets across sectors like energy, agriculture, forestry, waste management, and industry.
