A plate of egg tarts reminds me on this -
Last week, I took my family to CANTON PARADISE restaurant for lunch.
While browsing through the menu, my eyes landed on my favorite treat: their mini egg tarts. They cost $5.80 for three and barely satisfy hunger.. I was thinking in my mind - "that this amount could gotten me plate of chicken rice from a hawker stall, that's consider a proper meal."
"But that it's tea break deal and there's 40% off! "
"It's not as though you cannot afford this"
In the end i ordered 2 plates.
While enjoying the treat - I found myself reflecting on a deeper lesson: the importance of being generous with oneself.
Growing up, I was taught to be frugal and due to my family circumstances, restaurants are simply considered as luxuries. Even now, despite I am in a better position now, sometimes I still tend to be harsh on myself - wondering if i am indulging myself.
Yet, seeing my family enjoy these little pleasures made me realise that - this is what i'm working hard for, to being able to provide for my loved ones, shouldn't i be also loving myself more?
At this stage of life, being able to share these treats with my family—brings me great satisfaction. It’s a good reminder that taking good care of ourselves and our loved ones is not just a reward. It is also one of my motivation to thrive and do well in life.
