Being a Governor in this country has to be the easiest job. People won’t even send you, except you are a Governor in Lagos. Last I remember the land belongs to the states, but what are they doing in the aspect of agriculture, we only focus on Timubu federal government and why your state governors are sleeping away. Chinese people are in our homeland doing cassava farming and exporting them to their country. A young man once interrupted PBAT during his campaign outside the country shouting commodification of our currency using cassava we all laughed at him without hearing what he had in mind. A state like Ekiti is practically doing nothing as regard agriculture, during Segun Oni regime there was ongoing cassava revolution , he acquired hectares of land in every local government and allocated them to farmers that by forming them into different cooperatives , he gave them everything they needed and even was on the verge of bringing in a refinery producing ethanol using cassava for export , but his regime was cut short . This is a clarion call to all SW governors, what exactly is the comprehensive plan for agriculture in the region ?. While we continue to wait on Nigeria, the creation of Amotekun has shown that we can indeed regroup as a region. Beyond the commissioners of agriculture Lagos, what are other state commissioners doing ?. I know DAWN together with the 6 commissioners of agriculture in the region recently visited the Head of NADF, but what is the next step?. What is Oodua company doing about agricultural investment in the region ?. Why can’t we have a regional commodity board, regional farm settlements and regional market hubs? We have dams in Oyo, Osun and Ekiti for all year round farming, why can’t they be revived ? Why can’t we have agro processing industries in Lagos and Ogun state that will primarily offtake from farmers in Ondo, Oyo , Osun and Ekiti? Why can’t we have our regional ranch system and rear livestock animals ? Why ? Why ? Why? You people are making this agriculture look difficult and complex. One would think Awolowo had 10 heads" Awolowo created a lot of functional farming settlements, why are they not functioning again ?If we like we can curse Tinubu from not till they kingdom comes, Dollars will continue to rise cause we don't print them , but if we can feed ourselves, we will be able to solve half of our problem.

Coming across this video brings back the excitement I felt returning to fieldwork after a very long break. There’s truly nothing like engaging directly with the smallholder farmers you work with. In 2 weeks, I travelled to 3 States and I gained invaluable lessons from interacting with farmers in the cashew, sesame, and soybean value chains—insights I might never have picked up from research. It’s no wonder my colleague, Babatunde OLAREWAJU has consistently written his ‘Letter to my Farmers’ every week for the past three years. Face-to-face interactions provide a deeper understanding of the challenges and current realities smallholder farmers face, offering perspectives that go beyond desk research. In agriculture, you’re not a well-rounded consultant until you’ve experienced the field firsthand. It’s then that you realize there is a difference between theoretical knowledge and reality. 🌍 Exciting Changes in Tanzania's Cashew Payment System! The Tanzanian government is implementing a transformative change in its cashew payment system, shifting from the Agriculture Marketing Cooperative Societies (Amcos) to a more efficient, direct payment system managed by cooperative unions. This strategic move is designed to address and resolve long-standing challenges that have burdened farmers, including delayed payments and lost earnings. Under the new system, payments will be processed through the Central Payment System (CPS), which successfully underwent a pilot phase last year. This advanced payment platform is expected to streamline transactions, ensuring farmers receive quicker and more reliable payments as we approach the 2024/25 cashew season. By eliminating inefficiencies and delays, this change marks a significant improvement in the way cashew farmers are compensated for their hard work and produce. Additionally, comprehensive training programs have been conducted for cooperative leaders and Amcos executives to ensure a smooth transition and provide the necessary support for farmers during this shift. These efforts highlight the government's commitment to enhancing the livelihoods of farmers while fostering a more transparent and accountable payment process within the sector. This move is a crucial milestone in strengthening Tanzania's cashew industry, improving farmer earnings, and supporting sustainable agricultural growth. We are glad to share the Impact Report of our ‘Increased maize 🌽 value chain efficiency in Rwanda’ project, marking a successful 4.5-year collaboration between Agriterra, Africa Improved Foods Rwanda Ltd, Sight and Life and the Rwandan Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources. 🌟 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗔𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 The project significantly reduced post-harvest losses, eradicated aflatoxin contamination from the maize value chain, improved market access for maize cooperatives and made beneficial cooperatives bankable. The government is undertaking reforms in the dairy sector with the aim of increasing farmers' earnings. President William Ruto revealed that the #government is investing KSh5 billion in modernizing the New Kenya Co-operative Creameries (KCC) to enhance its efficiency and better serve the needs of #farmers. The primary objective is to boost KCC's processing capacity, ensuring it can handle the entire volume of milk produced by farmers. President Ruto directed KCC to commence payment to milk farmers at KSh50 per litre starting March 1, with a commitment to maintaining a #stable price. Additionally, he announced that, from July 1, farmers will receive payments every 15 days, aiming to eliminate #challenges like milk hawking resulting from delayed payments. During the commissioning of the upgraded New KCC in Nyahururu, Laikipia County, President Ruto emphasized the government's commitment to assisting farmers in acquiring high-quality animal breeds that are #economical in feed consumption to maximize profits. He also outlined plans to enhance farmers' access to seasonal credit through the Agricultural Finance Corporation, with a dedicated allocation of KSh10 billion for this purpose. President Ruto assured farmers timely access to this season's subsidized #fertilizer at a cost of KSh2,500, emphasizing that investing in #agriculture is a crucial strategy for wealth creation, expanding opportunities, and reducing the overall cost of #living and #food. Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua highlighted the success of #agricultural sector reforms, noting improved earnings for tea, coffee, and milk farmers. He specifically mentioned the record-high bonus in the history of #tea farming in the country. President Ruto also inaugurated the tarmacking of access roads in Lamuria, #Laikipia County, and laid the foundation stone for the #Nanyuki Affordable Housing Project, expected to generate over 1,000 jobs.
