Exciting news! The 2023/24 Sustainability Census Report has just been released, offering a comprehensive and global overview of the sustainability profession in the business and finance sectors. With over 2,200 responses from across the world, it is the largest report of its kind and reveals more information than ever before about what it's like to work in a sustainability-related profession today. Stemming from the rich legacy of the CR Salary Survey, first launched by Acre and Carnstone Partners Ltd in 2007, the report explores a variety of areas, including compensation, organizational sustainability targets, board-level ownership, sustainability function structure, and support for sustainability professionals. It sheds light on the current challenges faced by sustainability professionals and whether employers are doing enough to support those responsible for driving sustainable change. As the world looks to sustainability professionals to lead the way, this report offers insight into the current state of the profession and provides a benchmark for navigating the challenging terrain ahead with hope. How household surveys can be transformed to improve their impact on advancing the #SDGS

How can we best do that? Metamorphosing our thoughts by embracing Younger mentors will give us wings, connecting us all to our rapidly digitally transforming lives with connections to yet younger metamorphic mentors. MENTORING IS NOT ABOUT CREATING A MINI-ME. If you have any notion that people come to mentoring to learn how to be a clone of their mentor, think again. People want to learn from a mentor’s particular knowledge and experience. While a mentee may look up to a mentor as a role model, the mentee doesn’t necessarily want to be just like the mentor. I am crushed that these young folks do not want to grow up just like me……smile, but it is me who needs the mentoring, a two-way exchange. One of my goals for AutomatedBuilding.com is to get all of our industry on the same page. We have come closest to that ever with our free education session for AHRExpo.com Chicago.

I surveyed 100 women over 40 in leadership roles at companies employing at least ten people at the end of 2022. I asked them what their most pressing issues were as they looked ahead to 2023. I posted some of the results and some of the lessons. And I shared the full report with the participants. I hoped to make it an annual survey, closing out 2023 with the same questions and, building upon the lessons learned, include men in the next survey. But Covid took me out in November of 2023. So I focused my energy on my health, astonishing my clients, and closing out the year. The year-end survey didn't happen. And that's OK. Whether the survey is open November-December of 2023 or February-March 2024 is irrelevant. What matters is knowing what's on people's minds so I can better help them, and sharing the results with those who participate so they know they aren't alone. This year's survey will open tomorrow. One of my lessons learned? Don't forget the men. So, this year, you’re welcome to participate, too. 🚀 Australia's Population Surge: Challenges and Opportunities for Sustainable Growth 🌱 According to the latest data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics, Australia's population has experienced significant growth, adding 482,000 people over the past year, bringing the total to 26.5 million as of March 2023. This 1.9% increase is predominantly driven by net overseas migration, contributing to 387,000 new residents, with natural increase accounting for the additional 95,000. This demographic shift presents unique challenges and opportunities for sustainable development, particularly in urban regions such as New South Wales, Victoria, and Queensland, which have seen the largest influxes. As business leaders, compliance and legal professionals, and sustainability advocates, it is imperative that we understand the intersection of these trends with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and explore actionable strategies that align with our commitment to sustainable and inclusive growth. 🔹 SDGs Alignment: - SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth): Focus on achieving full and productive employment for all by 2030. - SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities): Enhance inclusive and sustainable urbanisation. - SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals): Develop measurements of progress that complement GDP. 🔹 Business Implications: Opportunities: The increase in population drives demand for goods and services, presenting new business opportunities and expanding the labor market with diverse talent. After attending the #innovationzero for the past couple of days I'm full of ideas and actions to take. Some of my key take-aways include: 🌍 oceans can store 28 times more carbon than land and atmosphere combined providing enormous opportunities to be explored 🌏 we need to take circularity to a next level and ensure we minimise and eventually completely stop using virgin materials and Rubbish Ideas and Excess Materials Exchange are already doing some great work in that area. One of the key arguments that really stuck with me made by Connor Bryant was that, even though recycled materials are currently more expensive than virgin materials, making such comparison is completely unfair, because we need to account for the fact that over the past decades massive investments went into extraction infrastructure rather than recycling infrastructure 🌍 Great perspectives form National Grid on how grid will have to accommodate the changing demands, enable more flexibility by tapping into domestic flexibility, maximise its capacity and be more functional to enable the energy transition 🌎 it was encouraging to learn that the finance industry, even though it may still not be where it should, it is recognising its key role in making finances available not only for innovations but also nature restoration projects. Pensions and insurances were highlighted by multiple people as a key areas where individuals and organisations can take to put pressure on the financial organisations to transfer their funds into more sustainable projects. 🌎 As we all know really well, collaboration will be key to enable all of this! 🌏 Last but not least, super exciting announcement from Planet Mark - we've launched a Net Zero Business Census to set a baseline of where all UK businesses are at the moment and to measure the progress on annual basis.
