The ACLU of Minnesota filed a lawsuit on Friday, June 21, on behalf of Derrick Gilbert, who was unlawfully arrested by Willmar police in a classic case of “walking while Black.” Mr. Gilbert is a 39-year-old Black man who lives in Kandiyohi County. On the morning of June 22, 2022, Gilbert was walking to work wearing a sleeveless red hoodie with the hood up. Willmar Police Officer Christopher Flatten was driving his police car when he saw Gilbert. Despite not being able to see Gilbert’s face, Flatten assumed he was a different Black man named Sammy Price. He checked to see if Mr. Price had a warrant out for his arrest. But Price is seven years younger than Gilbert, four inches shorter, and at least 90 pounds heavier. Gilbert also has significantly darker skin than Price. And Flatten reported that he had multiple prior interactions with Price and thus knew what he looked like. When Flatten saw Gilbert again a short time later, this time walking towards him, the officer decided to arrest Gilbert for Sammy Price’s warrant despite their clear physical differences. On this third anniversary of J6, the Associated Press has done a rack-up of related arrests, convictions, and sentencing of those involved. Authorities are still making arrests and working to figure out who put pipe bombs outside the Republican and Democratic National Committee offices the day before the J6 attack. Meanwhile, the risk of contested elections and another J6 style attack this year is solid. We must continue to reach out to each other across traditional and political divides to restore trust. We must all understand in our hearts that we are one nation, indivisible, even when we disagree. -- "More than 1,230 people have been charged with federal crimes in the riot, ranging from misdemeanor offenses like trespassing to felonies like assaulting police officers and seditious conspiracy. Roughly 730 people have pleaded guilty to charges, while another roughly 170 have been convicted of at least one charge at a trial decided by a judge or a jury, according to an Associated Press database. Only two defendants have been acquitted of all charges, and those were trials decided by a judge rather than a jury." -- "About 750 people have been sentenced, with almost two-thirds receiving some time behind bars. Prison sentences have ranged from a few days of intermittent confinement to 22 years in prison. The longest sentence was handed down to Enrique Tarrio, the former Proud Boys national chairman who was convicted of seditious conspiracy for what prosecutors described as a plot to stop the transfer of power from Trump, a Republican, to Joe Biden, a Democrat." -- "Authorities are still working to identify more than 80 people wanted for acts of violence at the Capitol and to find out who placed pipe bombs outside the Republican and Democratic national committees’ offices the day before the Capitol attack. And they continue to regularly make new arrests, even as some Jan. 6 defendants are being released from prison after completing their sentences." https://lnkd.in/eYwkzzC9

Shareholder - Eckberg Lammers | General Counsel @ Minnesota Police & Peace Officers Association | Keynote Speaker | Prosecutor
Take a moment to read this sobering account of a recent police encounter with a suicidal woman brandishing a firearm. Law enforcement entered into a dynamic and tense situation, with the mother attempting to prevent further harm to her daughter. Once they began to communicate with the woman, hoping to de-escalate the situation, she pointed her firearm at the officers, and was unfortunately shot in the encounter. All media headlines were misleading and provided a false narrative that police killed another with no mention of true nature of the encounter. Why am I addressing this? Knee-jerk reactions from groups like Communities Against Police Brutality sent a letter to the city council throwing out baseless allegations. None of these were true. When are we going to stop reacting to groups that want to create chaos and division? These lies spread and create alternate facts that end up getting picked up. Let's have a conversation based on facts and truth, and not immediately jump to conclusions without all the information. Remember, if it wasn’t for the split-second reaction, we could have been mourning the loss of officers killed in the line of duty. My prayers and respect to the victim who was battling too much for someone 41. Prayers to her and her family.

Senior Executive Leader Focused in the Healthcare Industry, Driving Transformational Strategies to Increase Operational Efficiencies & Influence Business Growth
The woke/equity movement now controls many American towns, including Kansas City, Missouri. That mass shooting during the Super Bowl parade on February 14 remains undefined. Why did it happen? What was the motive? Who exactly are the perpetrators? Four suspects are in custody. The two adults are black men, no details at all about the minors who will most likely be tried as adults. Of course, at this point, the authorities know what exactly happened but refuse to tell the public. Why? Because race is in play. Lisa Lopez-Galvan was killed, and 22 other innocent people were injured, yet there is no explanation from Kansas City. This is wrong. Everyone understands that if a white person was deemed responsible, that would have been front-page news on February 15, the day after, but minority criminal activity is handled differently. The public should know why horrendous crimes happen. It's a matter of safety. Is there a gang component to the mass shooting in KC? How did those arrested get handguns, especially the minors? Authorities have an obligation to inform us. This censorship stuff has got to stop. Stonewalling important information because of skin color or ethnicity is not in the public interest. The Mayor of Kansas City is not doing his job, and apparently, the police are afraid of him. Woke/equity: a plague upon the land.

Personal injury claims in Houston, Texas, and throughout the country can go to court in a full trial, but it's rare. Only about 3% of cases are resolved by a judge or jury according to the US Department of Justice (DOJ). The rest are either settled out-of-court or negotiated mid-trial (often for higher amounts than first offered).
