At SuperReturn I liked learning Accenture's value creation playbook for higher intervention and leveraging business ecosystem partnerships. By doing so, PE funds can force multiply the potential for value creation impact. It was a refreshing reminder because partnerships serve as that 3rd meta lever of value creation beyond talent and culture. And true to the company's tactical prowess, they created an XY axis for complexity and frequency of value creation levers (see below). Notice which levers signify the most complex ones: target operating model, M&A, GBS, headcount optimization, and sales effectiveness. What's the so what? This points to the single, most important question. A Head of Value Creation at the fund level--or Chief Transformation Officer at the portco level--has one, overriding goal or question to answer: How can I wargame the mix of levers and generate portfolio optimization, generating optimal revenue, cost, and working capital?
