Ever since my third year of university, I have wanted to be a consultant. While there are several reasons, I will list my top 3 reasons that might also influence you to pursue this career. ✅ Client/Customer Partnership: I have a genuine passion for helping clients, which the role of business consultants requires. My passion for customer service ignited when I was a Future Students Inquiry (FSE) at The Australian National University. I completed a comprehensive, detailed course on client relationships by the prestigious CSBA, where there were several modules, including Consultative Conversations, Effective Questioning Techniques for Customer Interactions, Influential & Negotiation Skills, and so on. After completing this course, I worked in the frontline of customer interactions. Furthermore, I was trained by some of the best people I know in this industry, like Lyuxia Yang and Lucy. Therefore, my natural urge to be client-centric and client value creation (one of the core values of Accenture) inspired me to be a business consultant. ✅ Traits: I have always been a logical thinker who loves finding solutions in a structured way. I did not know this earlier, but business consultants like to work in a structured way (for example, in this post). In addition, I am always curious to find answers. Whenever there is a problem, instead of overlooking it, I would often take the problem head-on and find a solution/alternative to it. This is another trait that most business consultants have. Therefore, my personal traits of a structured way of communication, logical thinking, and problem-solving skills match the requirements of being a business consultant. ✅ Technology Enthusiasm (specifically at Accenture Japan) I am genuinely passionate about leveraging technology to drive business transformation. The core work of business consultants involves utilizing technologies to redesign operations and promote IT implementation, which is close to my personal and academic pursuits. For example, my research paper is based on a similar idea: leveraging innovation to digitize Japanese companies. My enthusiasm for technology aligns perfectly with this role. Summer is here (see also bottom of the post for some interesting news)! 🌞 First three months at Accenture have gone in a blast, and a week of vacation abroad gave some time and distance to digest the past months! While some more vacation to follow later this summer, here are a couple of reflections of my journey at the company so far: ✅ Returning to consultancy after many years of in-house procurement has been for sure the right choice. Working truly side-by-side with multiple clients solving different complex challenges (I like to think of these as opportunities) has been great and rewarding. I hope that my background working as a CPO provides some insights to the discussions ✅ The company is huge which takes time and patience to understand. Every day you learn something new and get to know more people who can contribute ✅ Everyone has been super-friendly and eager to help fit in. Atmosphere and approach is truly international, and the best talent is called for action in each engagement. A lot of focus is being put on team building and well-being - even though joining this April it has been great that company provides a full summer vacation to truly unwind and gear-up for future endeavors ✅ Accenture provides a unique combination of advisory, BPO and technology expertise to resolve even the most challenging problems. In sourcing & procurement this means for example that the spend that we are managing for our clients makes us one of the biggest, if not the biggest procurement organization in the world. These vast procurement capabilities and operations create a responsibility and an inbuilt drive to develop and optimize activities further which can then be utilized for the benefit of all parties ✅ There are so many possibilities still to be uncovered, interested to see what's next Have a great summer all, enjoy the sun and relax! P.s. Summer is also a good time to think about one’s next steps.
