What an incredible experience attending the NCN Carbon Markets Summit yesterday in Brackenhurst, Limuru! 🌍✨ As stakeholders, we found the event to be immensely inspiring and full of valuable insights. The presentation on the state of the carbon industry in Kenya was particularly thought-provoking, highlighting both opportunities and challenges that lie ahead for us all. We had the pleasure of participating in the Themed Breakouts, where our group focused on Standards and methodologies. Collaborating with experts from Dalberg, Climate Impact Partners, and The Nature Conservancy was a unique opportunity to delve deep into actionable strategies and policy recommendations. The combined energy and dedication to creating significant change were truly palpable. The afternoon sessions, especially the Plenary Q&A on Carbon Regulations with Dr Anne Omambia and the Sector breakout, provided crucial insights into the evolving regulatory landscape. This will undoubtedly shape SSS - SFAI Sustainability Solutions approach and strategies moving forward. The highlight of the day was the Regional Engagement session led by Paul Muthaura. His overview of carbon markets in East Africa opened my eyes to the vast potential for regional collaboration. It was a reminder of the power we have when we work together across borders. This summit reaffirmed our belief that, together, we can drive significant progress in sustainability and carbon market development. We are leaving with a wealth of knowledge, new connections, and a renewed sense of purpose. 🌊 Despite progress, a significant number of households in the Philippines still lack access to a safely managed water supply. It becomes more relevant and urgent for island communities lacking adequate and sustainable fresh water supply. This issue is also prevalent in marginalized areas characterized by poverty, conflict, and vulnerability to the impacts of climate change.   🌍 As climate change continues to reshape our world, access to safe water becomes crucial in achieving the water-related goals outlined in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. It serves as the cornerstone of our pursuit of a sustainable future, with far-reaching effects on economies, societies, and ecosystems. 💧 UNIDO's support to the country in this area includes an upcoming initiative that is in partnership with Tawi-Tawi LGU and Mindanao Development Authority. This initiative will adopt a water-energy-food nexus approach, aiming to develop sustainable access to clean water and enhance the adaptive capacity of marginalized communities to cope with climate change impacts. It involves providing reliable and climate resilient water infrastructure and services, enhancing productivity, and creating broader market opportunities. 🏝 Last week in Barbados, the Getting to Zero Coalition hosted a side event at the Global Supply Chain Forum to better understand the needs Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and Least Developed Countries (LDCs) might have to enable a just and equitable transition. We brought together diverse stakeholders from various regions, each uniquely impacted by climate change, trade costs, policy measures, and more. Our discussions centred around identifying similarities, pinpointing differences, and truly understanding what nations need to enable a just and equitable transition. 👖 A one-size-fits-all definition of a just and equitable transition doesn't exist—it means something different for every country. The Getting to Zero Coalition aims to compare these different understandings to build more inclusive and tailored approaches for each region.

▶️ #JustTransition - Neïla Mangin, Corporate Accountability and Climate Justice Advisor, took part in a crucial webinar on ‘Just Transition to an Inclusive Circular Economy in ASEAN’, organized by SWITCH-Asia. 🫂 In her intervention, Neïla Mangin underlines why local communities and Indigenous People need to be part of the Just Transition Conversation and how to better accommodate their participation. 🌐 150 million Indigenous People live in Asia. They are disproportionately affected by Just Transition projects. They are not legally recognised, and are not part of the decision making process. Their input and knowledge of agriculture can bring key solutions. ⚖️ Inclusivity and participation can only be effective when we recognise the time, money, and effort required by local communities and Indigenous People to carve out time to participate.
