Jonny here 👋 Having given more purpose to growing Ticket Tailor, I know first-hand that making a profit can also be used for positive change. I truly see this as the way forward for all upcoming businesses. And today I've got a slightly different (and very exciting) post for you. Introducing EarthInvest: a brand new fund brought to you by Ticket Tailor. EarthInvest's mission is to bring our Planet to every meeting room, and we believe this can be achieved by supporting a number of start-ups to prioritise the planet as a stakeholder. We've teamed up with Supercritical, one of the largest carbon removal marketplaces, who've been providing Ticket Tailor expert climate advice and carbon removals since 2021. Together, we're guiding startups towards sustainability and championing success stories that prioritise the planet. We're excited to offer funding for five promising startups with £12,500 each to kickstart their sustainability journey. Successful applicants will use this grant to pay for carbon footprint measurement, high-quality carbon removals, carbon literacy training and net zero consultancy. I was at SuperReturn #SuperVenture last week. It was a fun, interesting and learning experience. Thought I'd call out a few things (notes to self and for y'all). ➡ Founder-friendliness GP<>LP events have the same power dynamics in more commonplace Founder<>GP events; and GPs complain about missing, absent, and few LPs - all the challenges Founders otherwise face. Solid reminder on walking the talk on being founder friendly, and what that entails. Similarly - you'll also find LPs who're more (emerging) GP friendly, walking their talk. ➡ Comfort zones, Hustle, Frugal Mindset Solid reminder on staying in the fringes (if not out of) comfort zones, hustling and maintaining a frugal mindset to building. Was amazing to see so many GPs all paddling in the same way, juggling similar constraints and such. Heartening to find your tribe (dealing with the same struggles you are). ➡ Don't Undersell Yourself I've come to realise I short-sell my investing experience (something my better half foram is always pointing out) - so this was helpful to know that having run a prior micro-fund with a DPI of 2, and TVPI north of 5; an angel portfolio of over 30 odd companies, and a fully raised first fund from Appreciate Capital is...... pretty damn good! Always good to be ambitious and hungry for more - but gotta learn to not let that mean diminishing what I've already accomplished! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Can't miss the opportunity to thank a few people who made it a great trip for me. Ankit and Andreas for knowingly or otherwise nudging me into booking last min train tickets to come down with zero plans. Francesco for putting together a great spreadsheet with all the side events going on, and an informal WA group for GPs attending to chatter. Monik, Bettine, Til and others for extending invites and having me at their events. Francesca for hanging out a ton with me, and sharing hard learnt lessons on fund ops. Jag who was the kindest person ever, helping me feel more 'in'! Fabian and Eberhard with whom I remember a fantastic in-tram conversation, and who were amongst the select (but growing) few who had a pov on India. Ben who surprised me with the nugget that he's got meaningful India exposure via ETFs!! Jamie who I know from another emerging GP community. Shubhankar who I know from a decade or so from our respective past lives! Elisheva who is always a joy to meet, and made impromptu time on a launch day for me. and so many others I chatted with - Kirsten Connell (shoutout to you Akriti Dokania!), 🚀Jonathan, Stephane, .... I was too busy listening and speaking, and missed clicking any pictures, save this one, from cocktails @ Tower courtesy bunch, Calm/Storm, Pact. What a fab view of Berlin. I made 80% wrong when starting Umbrelly year ago. But luckily 20% Key Moves I Made as a Founder in the Early Days were right. Key actions I took as a founder in the early days: 1. Chose the right business model. 2. Found first 5 customers personally—talked to them, understood their needs. 3. Brought on a great co-founder Elijah Koniukh 4. Invited 3 key early employees from my previous projects to join our great team Taras Paslavskyi Maksym Avin Max Anuchin 5. Secured money from great angel investors Pavlo Kobzar Dmytro Romaniuk Vladyslav Podoliako Michael Maximoff 6. Built early product prototypes and found and hired developers to built our MVP. What I’m focusing on now to increase our chances of success: 1. Pivoting or exploring alternative business models close to our core. 2. Raising more funds to extend our runway and boost our chances of survival. 3. Developing a clear strategic vision for business model, product, marketing, and PR.

This has been totally overshared but posting for the brave founders and aspiring entrepreneurs currently raising capital. 😊 Brian Chesky, CEO of Airbnb, was rejected by seven VCs while raising $150k seed at a $1.5 million valuation. That $150k would've equated to 10% stake of Airbnb (now worth roughly $25 billion). Rejections are inevitable, but don't let them discourage you. Instead, view them as opportunities to learn and refine your pitch strategy.
