Last Friday we celebrated the awards. Today, we celebrated the people behind the awards. A grand haul of 18 wins. 7 Gold, 4 Silver, 6 Bronze and 1 Grand Prix! Whilst holding bragging rights for ‘effectiveness’, we are beyond ecstatic to also be crowned as most ‘creative’ at the recent 4As Advertising Festival. We are in a business of ideas and people. And thus, these awards are a culmination in the strong conviction of belief in our ideas and pushing to sell through to the client. We salute the 4As for a brilliantly organized and concluded festival, our clients who believe in us, and the team that rallies together - rain or shine - to bring it all to fruition. We believe dissatisfaction is the mother of reinvention. That’s why our icon is the octopus. It’s the only organism on the planet that routinely edits its own genetic material to adapt, innovate, and thrive. It outsmarts the competition by constantly changing. Ahead of the WNBA (Women's National Basketball Association) Draft and the highly anticipated season kick-off on May 14, Amazon Prime Video and the league have extended their media rights agreement for two more years 🏀 Under this renewed partnership, Prime Video will be broadcasting 21 games in the 2024 season, up from 20 in the previous deal. This includes the championship game of the 2024 Commissioner's Cup! With the Amazon deal in hand, the WNBA remains in the market for its next primary media rights deal. It's as if the real commissioners of sports all wear robes, while commissioners, owners, coaches, players, referees and sports biz execs play second fiddle. This has been the summer of judges taking over the sports industry. My Sportico column:

Thank you Festival of Media for an amazing opportunity to be a part of the judging panel for the 2024 awards! After reading countless global entries, scoring them, watching case study videos over six hours, and having a spirited dialogue on brand work, here is what I took away: 1. There is an art to debating with people - It's a conversational sparring match in which intellectual intentions yield respectful disagreements and civil resolutions. 2. Human truths add meaning to lifeless products - Not every product from a brand has a needed purpose in our lives. The products aren't the star of the lifestyle show we all individually star in ("Previously on Being Me") and often need an injection of humanity to make it make sense. 3. Internal bias is a reflection of our absorbed experiences - That voice inside your head, the internal dialogue and debate you have within yourself to be heard, to be right, to be loudest, to be fastest, to be better, to be smarter, CONSTANTLY needs to be checked. Shelving my psychological proclivities in place of the actual definition of the award category being judged and listening to my gut instinct when it comes to inclusivity and marginalized experiences being catapulted into the mainstream via advertising. 4. The global outlook on life > the local lens on life - In other parts of the world, brands show up in a way that replaces or challenges the government. They provide philanthropic solutions for those with no way forward or connect people to possibilities that change the immediate quality of their lives. The Big East is finalizing a new six-year media rights deal with FOX Sports, NBC, and TNT, which is expected to increase from its previous $500M contract significantly. A couple musings on the deal: ◾The BIG EAST Conference, with four of the last eight men's D-I basketball championships, shows the value media companies place on basketball, though football drives media rights money. It'll be interesting to see how this deal compares to football-centric ones like the AAC's $1B deal with ESPN. ◾Adding multiple network partners boosts potential nationwide viewership, similar to the Big Ten Conference. ◾With the Big East deal nearly done, the Mountain West Conference is next, likely seeing an increase from its current $45M annual deal with CBS/Fox. 📻 Radio is still alive and thriving in a digital age. Despite the rise of digital media, radio remains a powerful tool for reaching local communities, especially within diverse segments. I recently attended the 2024 National Hispanic Radio Conference in San Antonio, where our CEO, Marina Filippelli shared insightful research on the impact of #corridos on pop culture. Music Mexican Regional isn’t so regional anymore. Breakout songs, genre blending collabs, and more are driving #musica regional into the mainstream. Here’s why IMO radio is still thriving: 🎯 Community Connection: Radio creates a personal bond with listeners, offering a sense of familiarity and trust that digital media often lacks. 🎯 Cultural Relevance: Genres like corridos resonate deeply within Hispanic communities, preserving and promoting cultural heritage. 🎯 Local Impact: Local radio stations deliver content relevant to listeners' daily lives, from news and events to music and talk shows. Is Radio Dying? No! Radio is evolving, not dying. While radio consumption remains strong among the 35+ audience, there is a significant opportunity to reach younger listeners. To reach younger audiences, stations need to adapt radio content for digital formats. Podcasts, streaming services, and social media can extend radio’s reach and keep it relevant. By leveraging its unique strengths and embracing digital formats, radio stations can connect meaningfully with multicultural audiences.
