The authors of this preliminary study share that "Sexual orientation and gender identity data are not collected by most hospitals or cancer registries; thus, little is known about the quality of breast cancer treatment for patients from sex and gender minority (SGM) groups." It concludes that further study is needed. During #Pride month, and every month, we at the Coalition are here, now, to support and empower those in the LGBTQ+ community who are affected by #breastcancer or #GYNcancer. #survivorship #SurvivingandThriving https://lnkd.in/gnszATd7

New research from Dana-Farber Cancer Institute shows that people who are part of the LGBTQ+ community are more likely to face cancer risks, but are also more likely to experience barriers to diagnosis and treatment (1). And, even though 84% of physicians indicate that they feel comfortable treating LGBTQ+ patients, only 24% of those patients report feeling comfortable seeking treatment (2) At Stratis Group, we applaud provider systems like Dana Farber for going the extra mile to try and help make LGBTQ+ patients feel comfortable seeking treatment, and for researching how this discomfort negatively contributes to outcomes in the LGBTQ+ population. Some things we can all do to meaningfully impact the health of our community, all year round: - Provide training on microaggressions – especially for patient-facing teams - Take steps to physically and visibly convey LGBTQ+ acceptance - Advocate for equitable preventative healthcare for known disproportionate disease incidence We would also like to recognize our industry partners for funding this important research. It matters, and it isn’t free. #BristolMyersSquibb #Gilead #Lilly #Merck #Pfizer #Eisai #Novartis #Pride2024 #LGBTQ+ #healthcare (1) https://lnkd.in/ewmm-tM6 (2) https://lnkd.in/eDzcNPMD

This June, as we celebrate Pride Month, InterSystems recognizes the importance of achieving health equity for the LGBTQ+ community. Data plays a crucial role in connecting marginalized communities with essential care. A 2020 study by the National LGBT Cancer Network, "OUT: The National Cancer Survey," revealed that LGBTQ+ people of color were less likely to seek medical care for various cancers, facing isolation and significant barriers. Access to life-saving care for all requires utilizing the same methods and technologies across all populations, regardless of gender identity or sexual orientation. We applaud those leveraging data to foster a more inclusive continuum of care for LGBTQ+ individuals.
