When people invite you to connect on LinkedIn only to be able to inmail you to pitch slap, this is what it looks like. Last week I received an invitation to connect from a financial advisor at Morgan Stanley that said "Hey Ariella, wanted to connect since it looks like we know some of the same people." I was rather skeptical but decided I'd give her the benefit of the doubt and accepted yesterday. Turned out my suspicious nature was right on target. This morning, s he sent this: "Hi Ariella, My name is ___, and I'm reaching out on behalf of myself and my partners at Morgan Stanley. In addition to financial planning, we specialize in executive compensation, exposure to private investments, and tax-efficient investing for those with more complex financial needs. If you have a few minutes, we'd love to set up a call to speak on the things we can do differently at Morgan Stanley." As a marketer myself, I assure you, the leaders at Morgan Stanley that having your people attempt to lure people into connecting by claiming it's about having people in common and then revealing the ruse by immediately pitch slapping the person who accepted is not a good look. Why would I trust such people with my investments? I wouldn't.
