Yesterday I wrote a post about focusing on developing community assets and enterprises within Grimsby. But what does this mean? It refers to a strategic approach aimed at building and enhancing resources and businesses that are of value to the local community. This can include a range of projects and initiatives: 1. Community Assets: These are properties or spaces that are owned or managed by community organisations for public benefit. Examples include community centres, parks, libraries, and sports facilities. Developing these assets means improving, expanding, or creating new spaces that serve the community's needs and interests. 2. Community Enterprises: These are businesses that are set up, owned, and run by the local community. They often reinvest profits back into the community. Examples can include local co-operatives, social enterprises, and community-run shops or cafes. Developing these enterprises means supporting the growth of businesses that not only serve the local economy but also contribute to the social and communal well-being of Grimsby. The focus on these areas implies that initiatives and investments in Grimsby should prioritise projects that bring tangible benefits to the community, boost the local economy, and enhance the quality of life for its residents. This is happening a lot in Grimsby but not everyone is aware of these brilliant community organisations. I am joining one of these organisations next Tuesday at an event they have organised "Our Future Open House 2023" in collaboration with East Marsh United I attended last year and came away inspired and humbled. I believe there are still tickets available. 📍Bromley Community Hub! 🎤This week the Mayor of London Borough of Bromley and a diverse range of people joined us at the Greener & Cleaner Hub in The Glades for their London Festival of Architecture event series. This space is a working example of how a consistent and physical location for climate engagement can be used to: - 💷Address the cost of living crisis and waste through energy efficiency advice, repair workshops and borrowing with a Library of Things. - 🧩Tackle health issues and loneliness by providing a safe, fun and educational social space in a mainstream location. - 📚Create opportunities for developing life, language and employment skills - 🌱And of course, influence a domino effect for local carbon reduction, resilience and nature engagement. 🔦Parisa Wright is the inspiring light behind this project. The work she is doing with the volunteers at the Hub demonstrably proves how interconnected action can have a holistic impact. This deserves attention and support from all of us, particularly those in local government driving sustainable place-shaping! 💡Have you donated to the crowdfund yet? What does your byline mean to you?
Connecting communities & environment. Engagement, strategy, policy. Director at Element Environmental.
Do you have a snappy little byline beside your name on LinkedIn? What does it mean in reality? For me, ‘connecting communities and environment’ has meant: Supporting Greater Wellington and Otago regional councils to give farmers and rural professionals clear guidance on where to next with farm planning. Looking for opportunities to make it easy for Auckland rural communities to achieve environmental outcomes alongside community resilience. Enabling those working with catchment groups to help them get clarity on where to start. Shining a light on cross-sector insights for community engagement approaches with NZ Forest Owners Association. Thank you to our wonderful Element Environmental clients for giving us the opportunity to find so many meaningful ways to connect community and environment and to our very own Amelia Wood and Harriet Kemp! Thank you especially to Libby Caldwell, Dave Boone, Leanna Birch, Maddison Jones Hannah Blake, and the New Zealand Foresty Owners Association.

The Jemez Principles, coming into play amidst regional Thriving Communities work, have stood the test of time. ... "For Sierra Club, it was very transformative, if you will, when we adopted some years ago, what is called the Jemez principles for democratic organizing as our methodology for organizing. There was often criticism on how environmental organizations would parachute into a place whenever there was any issue and sort of take over the stage and call the shots. "And communities, especially #environmentaljustice organizations, resented that for many years, because of course an organization with the relative size or power within the movement of Sierra Club coming into a community and [to] start calling the shots where these communities may have been working for a long time, there’s not that spiritual experience of #mutuality or #collaboration or #partnership. "So, the Jemez principles for democratic organizing is something that came up at a meeting by the Southwest Network for Environmental and Economic Justice in the 90s—it basically developed this. It has very simple principles of being inclusive, an emphasis on bottom-up organizing, and letting people speak for themselves—working together in #solidarity, and mutuality, and true partnership." - Ramón Cruz https://lnkd.in/gNNvs-Dn

It won't be news to many of you how passionate I am about National Parks. We have 15 of them here in the UK, from my beloved Exmoor National Park in the South West to the majestic Cairngorms National Park Authority in Scotland (which I'm shockingly yet to visit) and Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park in Wales, a regular haunt of mine when I lived just across the bridge. You may not know that, despite how amazing they are, these diverse and important landscapes are nature-depleted and in need of funding to restore nature and unlock all the benefits that brings - protecting us against climate change, creating homes for wildlife and boosting our health and wellbeing. Or how they receive less £s from government today, than they did over a decade ago - despite inflation and huge cost of living rises. National Parks Partnerships is a much-needed organisation that develops partnerships with businesses to benefit National Parks UK and have a great track record working with BMW UK, Palladium: Make It Possible & others. I've been working with them on comms and have, in collaboration with the brilliant Empower Agency, launched a new campaign to help develop more partnerships to fund nature in #NationalParks. 'A Natural Partnership' is a rally call to businesses to step up and support nature in the nation's most treasured, and important, landscapes. Please take a look, share and help us reach businesses who can help supercharge nature recovery in National Parks. You can find out more, and register your interest in becoming a #NationalParksPartner here > https://lnkd.in/ecGNbGXJ #NationalPark #NationalParksUK #UKNationalParks #NationalParksPartnerships #NatureBasedSolutions #NatureRecovery #CorporatePartnerships #CorporatePartners

Freelance Sustainability Consultant and Project Manager | Former Research and Innovation Lead at Space&Matter
Feeling humbled, honoured, and motivated to work for impact! I was touched and grateful to have been nominated and elected by the members to serve on the European Community Land Trust Network Board of Trustees for the next two years. I look forward to supporting this European-wide organization, whose mission is to enable the growth of Community Land Trusts (CLTs) across Europe and support them to maximise their long-term social and environmental impact. There are over 350 CLTs acting as stewards for thousands of affordable homes and other assets. The European CLT Network is a voice for these CLTs, connecting and catalysing the movement. We want Community Land Trusts to be recognised as a mainstream option for affordable, inclusive and sustainable land use and housing across Europe. What are my main priorities as a Trustee? 1-2-3 🎬 📈 Support the Secretariat I aim to support the work of the Secretariat to ensure the seamless functioning and sustainable growth of the Network and its members. Having supported the Network's formation in recent years, I am highly motivated to continue this work in my new role. 🌏 Promote Sustainability and Circularity With my background in sustainability and circularity for the built environment, I will work to enhance the Network's efforts in educating and supporting European CLTs to become more sustainable. My goal is to facilitate the exchange of inspiration, knowledge, and expertise, enabling CLTs to lead in sustainable living. 📍Advocate for CLTs in Central and Eastern Europe Coming from Central-East Europe, I am eager to promote and advocate for CLTs in our region. Currently, there is limited awareness of the CLT model in Poland, and I am excited to engage with those interested in creating permanently affordable, community-led, and sustainable housing provision models. I had a chance to mention Community Land Trust model on the podcast recorded by Architektura Powinna, but I am looking forward to spreading the word further for this important cause. To another beautiful journey, yet to begin. I'll keep you updated. Here’s a photo from last week’s General Assembly in Berlin. #CommunityLandTrusts #Sustainability #AffordableHousing #EuropeanCLTNetwork #WorldCLTday Feel free to reach out if you're interested in learning more about Community Land Trusts or getting involved with our mission!
