50 Trust & Safety jobs open in Austin. Over the last few days, local Austin Trust & Safety professionals were requesting some guidance on their job hunt. While I'm not looking for a job myself, I took some hours from my day to compile a list of 50 jobs currently taking applications for Trust & Safety roles in Austin. I don't plan on doing this regularly, job seekers should master LinkedIn alerts and follow TS contributors like Jeff Dunn who has been posting roles consistently for the last year. Here are my top tips for job seekers - 1) Trust & Safety is not limited to content moderation. Don't limit yourself with this thinking, apply to a wide variety of roles that leverages program management, policy, working with data, investigations and incident response. 2) Keep learning new skills. Data skills are evergreen, Payment risk and Investigations skills are in-demand. 3) Don't limit your industry. The top Trust and Safety professionals have a variety of experiences in Social Media, Marketplaces and now AI companies. 4) Don't make Trust & Safety a 'job', make this your trade. 🔒 Beware: Protecting Yourself in the Hiring Process 🔒 😉 When it comes to job applications, it's crucial to tread cautiously, especially when sharing personal information. Recently, I encountered a hiring process that left me scratching my head, prompting me to share some important insights. 1️⃣ Redundant Forms: Often, after submitting a resume, we're asked to fill out lengthy applications. While I understand the need for details, it feels repetitive. Shouldn't our resume speak volumes about our work history? 2️⃣ Personal Data Requests: Alarm bells rang when I was asked for sensitive information like my Social Security Number and credit report. In today's digital age, where data breaches are rampant, it's imperative to question such requests. 3️⃣ Payment Methods: Payment via check raised eyebrows. With numerous secure digital payment options available, why revert to outdated methods? The use of the word 'kindly' in communication felt antiquated and added to my skepticism. While I believe in the goodness of most, it's essential to exercise caution. Let's prioritize our safety and privacy in the job hunt. Mike Pedrick actually made me think of something from my other 🌶️ post. With respect to gatekeeping in security. This one may also get spicy 🥵 because I’m gonna ask some revealing questions. Ageism. 👨🦳 It’s pretty bad. Not JUST in security but I’m not going out of my depth here. 1️⃣ Did we forget that nowadays most people change jobs in like 3-5 years? I’ve heard the arguments from the employer side about how “I don’t want to hire someone, get everything invested in them, and they just retire.” The question I have for THAT is… 2️⃣ Do we realize that younger people are actually more inclined to move on when they find out that your company culture is crap? Follow up question. 3️⃣ Is it lost on hiring managers that sometimes people just want to do a lower level job without all the headache? 🤕 If I have a role that’s just doing vulnerability scans and cutting tickets off to people to patch? Why do I care if the person doing it is 18 or 72, or 30? They’re going to be gone in 5 years regardless. Some folks just want to do the job and leave for the day… so friggin TRAIN THEM and LET THEM. I don’t blame the hiring managers 💯 for that. I blame leadership on this one. Leadership is the one that needs to understand that there’s no such thing as a “perfect candidate”. And the longer you search for the perfect candidate, the longer the 🐂💩 piles up on the rest of the team. (Which makes them want to leave earlier… huh… go figure). If you’re a hiring manager reading this… just fcking hire someone already, like wtf, they aren’t going to be perfect. Just do it.
