Netball Australia faces numerous challenges and understandably is wary about how things play out in the media. However, transparency is always better than the alternative. This latest story is concerning because it appears the sport, once a favourite of girls and women around the country, is continuing to lurch from one hurdle to the next thereby minimising its commercial and public growth. To think the governing body allowed the national Diamonds team generally, and the only Indigenous player, Donnell Wallam, specifically to carry the blame for a sponsorship deal that fell over - when the players actions were on the advice of a director - shows weakness, possibly disunity on the board, and a failure of governance. I recommend reading Carla Jaeger's piece in the SMH, "Netball Australia director secretly stepped down, new documents reveal", and this from Andrew Mathieson in National Indigenous Times, "Wallam looks to the future after advisor behind sponsorship saga revealed". To signal a new era, where trust between players and governing body is restored, as well as with fans and the corporate sector, Netball Australia would be wise to confront the situation publicly - painful initially but with long term benefits. https://lnkd.in/gZpaaPmd #netball #sportsbiz #governance #crisismanagement #communications #media #athletesvoice #racism #sponsorship #management

The new format of the UEFA Champions League is coming to live this year and the ownership groups of the participating clubs have become more diverse. The graphic below of the CIES Sports Intelligence shows a number of different companies investing for different reasons. In general, more than ever you can see that football clubs became the target of investment groups for one reason or another. With soccer gaining more and more global relevancy - it does not seem to be only a trend for investors to get minority or majority stakes in clubs but soccer/sports becoming a new sought after asset class. It will be interesting to see which investment strategy will work best for its group and when the respective exits are going to happen if at all. #sportsbusiness #multiclub
⚽ #ClubOwnership networks. More than half (20 or 55%) of the 36 clubs take will take part in the 24/25 #UEFAChampionsLeague are involved in #MultiClubOwnership. 14 of them are either directly or indirectly linked at ownership level with another club in the competition ⚽ #footballgovernance #sportsbusiness #MCO

When 'The Tigers' became 'The Turkeys'.... This old photo shows my own family’s business, Twydale, sponsoring Hull City A.F.C. in the Eighties. The connection between family businesses and sports club sponsorship or ownership is deep rooted… hardly surprising as there are many parallels. Both are rooted in a shared sense of community, tradition, and resilience. Both are built on foundations of loyalty, passion, and shared experiences. Just as we don’t change our family, the bond between a fan and their football club is often unwavering, transcending generations and geographies. As organisations, family businesses and football clubs share similar values and challenges. Both require strong leadership, clear vision, and a commitment to long-term sustainability. They both serve as pillars of their respective communities, encouraging a sense of belonging and pride among their supporters. Whether it’s investing in professional sport, youth academies, upgrading facilities, or supporting grassroots initiatives, family businesses play a vital role in shaping the future of both football and the world of sport, in general. While you may be involved in—or have started—a youth sports organization or amateur league, chances are good you probably didn't do it because of your love of administration! But running a youth sports organization takes work and brings with it a lot of responsibility, not the least of which is keeping young players and visitors safe. #athletics #education #sportsprograms #sportsinschools #insurance

Littler, bigger, better & bolder, Eh?⚠️🎯👍⚠️ The Guardian: Luke Littler legacy can launch darts into new era for kids & top players. Breakout success of the 16-year-old is being felt at grassroots level and can shift outdated perceptions of the sport. Aaron Bower | Sunday 7 Jan 2024: On Monday evening, the doors to the Sidac social club in St Helens will be opened by Karl Holden, as they are every week so the St Helens Darts Academy can take place. But this week, and every week from now on, there may be a slight logistical issue thanks to the academy’s most famous graduate. “We have over 90 kids coming into the academy every Monday night, we’re pretty much full as it is,” Holden says. “But during the world championship, I reckon I’ve had at least 20 or 30 kids come into my shop telling me they want to sign up and play.” The reason why? “All they talk about is how they want to be the next Luke Littler.” The most famous 16-year-old in sport has dominated the headlines with his extraordinary run to the final of the PDC World Darts Championship. With the tournament over, attention is turning to how Littler will fare in his first full season as a professional and how his exploits could have a seismic impact for a sport that has battled for mainstream attention since its initial boom period of the 1980s. All of a sudden, darts is everywhere you look thanks to Littler, but the possibility is that those operating at the grassroots level are set to prosper too. https://lnkd.in/gX-42WQX

Yesterday I was lucky enough to attend the #LiveLongerBetter Celebration event and to listen to an amazing range of inspiring speakers bring to life the collaborative work that has taken place across the country. Thank you Annie Holden and Sir Muir Gray for your energy in driving this forward. I am still digesting what I heard but some initial reflections are: · Why it is important - Events like this remind me of why I am passionate about working in this industry. Physical activity, movement and sport does change people’s lives for the better. Enabling people to live longer happy and healthier lives, reducing loneliness and improving community cohesion. But huge inequalities still exist, and change will only continue to be made if we work together connecting the system at a national level and local level, I want to play a role in making this happen. · Its not simple! We have the evidence of the huge impact being physically inactivity has from a health and economic perspective. Some amazing work from partners was shared across the day so why is not more change happening? We need consistent policy asks to make changes across multiple sectors and levels and need cross sector buy in. · We need to meet people where they are at – not just geographically but understanding their situation and barriers and motivations. Peoples lived experiences need to be embedded within our work and we must not assume we know what they are. I am looking forward to the release of the @WeAreUndefeatable Big Talk report to bring this to life. · Importance of behavioural science and language. What are our consistent messages? What resonates with people? Do we need to reinforce that something is always better than nothing, focus on what people can do for themselves. We have more work to do to ensure we build confidence around reassuring people, family and friends that moving move out ways perceived risks. · People age at different rates – people with different lived experiences, living in different parts of the country age differently. This reinforces the importance of incorporating movement across all aspects of the life cycle. · Disease is caused by the environments we live - we have designed movement out of our lives. The link between active environments and making it safe and easy for people to move more in their everyday lives is vital. It was also great to catch up with colleagues at the events and make new connections. Thank you to everyone that organised and presented at the event.
Today our local and national partners will be gathering to celebrate the impact that the Sport England funded #LiveLongerBetter movement has had in recent years. We’ll also be considering how this successful movement, which has so far helped more than 20,000 people to get active and share the benefits of using exercise to maximise their independence later in life, can be sustained. #ActivePartnerships Annie Holden

Hello everyone. I've got some updates on our football club project. There's a lot going on these days, but I'll try to be brief. Considering the debts Aqtobe City FC has and the bureaucracy involved in paying the debts, I suggested that we start a new club or use another local existing uncertified club (AFC Uran, FC Aqtobe 1869). It will be cheaper and quicker. The form of organisation I propose is a limited company, so that anyone who supports the club will have a chance to benefit from the investment and effort made. Donations are welcome too, but in my opinion we as a club need to give something back to the investors (or offer some rewards like ads, fanshop gifts etc). All financial activities of the club will be transparent. As I have received many messages from interested sponsors, players, coaches and agents, I believe that we will be able to raise the necessary funds to apply for participation in the Kazakhstani League Two and the Kazakh Cup this season. 45,000 dollars is enough to start the club. The minimum annual budget is estimated to be around 125k dollars. I'm so confident of success that I mortgaged my own flat to invest that money in the club (but is is 17k dollars only). I also have created a page to raise funds for the club at https://lnkd.in/d3KMU3zf. As I said, any donations are to be rewarded accordingly. For other ways of cooperation and any questions please contact me directly. For those who want their players to play for our club: Currently we are not allowed to have non-Kazakhstani players playing in Kazakhstan's League Two, but if we are promoted to League One we will be allowed to sign up to 5-6 non-Kazakhstani players. It is highly likely to promote because League Two is predominantly a league of U18 football academies teams, so for the team of older and more experienced players it is realistic to become a runner-up if not a champion of the league. That is why I am suggesting to concentrate on successful Kazakh Cup campaign like FC Saarbrücken did this season in German Cup. I believe we can make it to quarter final of Kazak Cup too. We are allowed to use non-Kazakh players for friendlies and pre-season tournaments, so you may be interested in marketing your players this way, or playing yourself if you are a player looking for some international experience/playing history records. There are no nationality restrictions for coaching staff, medical staff, administrators etc. The head coach must have at least a UEFA A licence. The good news is that we will have a certified municipal stadium to play our home matches, as agreed with the local state authorities. Great news! Feel free to ask questions if any.
