The joint_states topic is a critical topic for your robot. It publishes the location of each of your robots joints, this lets other parts of your system plan where its hands are, or know how far the wheels have spun. If you're simulating with Gazebo, you can setup the ros2_control robot state publisher to publish your robots joint states. If you're using real hardware, you'll need your motor's encoders to be published to the topic instead.
