- Many resume templates these days include a space for a photo of yourself, yet it might not be the best idea to choose a layout with a photo. While it might be tempting to include the expensive professional headshot you paid for, it might cause you to be unconsciously biased against during the interview process. In general, including a photo on your resume is considered bad practice. Appearance is not a determining factor of your capability in any industry. And as such, we should take preventative measures to ensure we're not discriminated against. When I was applying for jobs in Germany, I was shocked to learn that a photo is generally required for a CV. When applying for jobs in European countries, as well as China and Japan, employers expect to see a photo on your CV. So you should research the country you're applying for jobs in to determine the customs around including a photo.
