- Have you ever said welcome guys at the beginning of a meeting? Or how about when planning a company-wide event? You extended the invite to your colleagues using words like husbands and wives or boyfriends and girlfriends. For many of us, we are intending to use this language as a sign of respect, yet when we do so, we are unintentionally causing harm to our LGBTQ+ colleagues. That's why it's essential to learn about the value of using gender inclusive language. Embracing this language can make a world of difference for LGBTQ+ people. In this video, I'm going to share a few gender exclusive terms and phrases and offer several gender inclusive alternatives. These alternatives require intentionality and commitment. Let's start by focusing on meeting greetings. Rather than welcoming ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, guys, you can simply say, welcome folks, hi everyone, or greetings friends.
