What motivates team members
- Motivating team members on a project can be tricky business. Because if you ask people what motivates employees, the first thing that often comes to mind is money. But as it turns out, salaries and bonuses aren't all that motivating. So what is motivating to people? Well, there are two types of motivators, intrinsic and extrinsic factors. Extrinsic motivation is doing something based on an external reward, such as job title, bonuses, and cash rewards. Winning and avoiding pain, such as failure or embarrassment, are also extrinsic motivators. Now don't get me wrong, of course you need to be paid a competitive wage for the work you do. But getting paid more is often not as motivating as meeting your own intrinsic motivation needs. Intrinsic motivation is motivation that comes from inside a person or is connected to a task itself.
