- So you're leaning into data analysis and by now, you probably realize the study of analytics could fill up multiple textbooks, and it does. You're probably asking yourself, where do I start? How do I know which numbers really matter most? For your purposes as a fundraiser, let's discuss the major areas in which data mining yields the most useful results in regards to nonprofit fundraising. You'll want to identify the following six data points: revenue by year, revenue by source, your total number of donors, total number of gifts, the average size of the gift, and your top 20 donors. Let's start with the total revenue by year. How much money did you raise last fiscal year? You will want to compare the total revenue figure over the last three years to begin identifying trends.
