Streamlining your tasks
- When many of us work through our to-do lists or our daily tasks, we do what's easiest first or we pick and choose based on what we feel like or we go in order from top to bottom. We mix different task types together into a jumbled mess. Instead, try batching, which simply means categorizing your tasks and completing similar tasks all at one time. Switching tasks requires a lot of cognitive power and there is a switching cost sapping your mental energy. Batching allows you to stay in the same mindset for similar tasks, capitalizing on your prime state. So, grab your to-do list or your task list and a few colored pens or highlighters. Pick one color and mark all the tasks that are similar. For example, green for creative tasks, red for administrative tasks, and blue for calls to reply to. Once you've categorized your tasks, start tackling each color group one by one. This approach not only increases your efficiency but also makes your to-do list a whole lot more colorful.
