Moving from to-do to do-when
- Do you want to know a surprisingly simple strategy used by the world's most successful people to get more done in fewer hours? Time boxing, it takes to-do lists to the next level by determining when you'll do your tasks. There are three steps: first, brain dump all of your tasks. What is it that you need to work on for the day? Second, identify the top three priorities of the day, what's most important? and third time box. Assign a fixed period of time to each priority. Block off the time in your calendar and stick to it. Little hint, we tend to be over optimistic and underestimate how long tasks take. It's called the planning fallacy. So when starting out double your time estimates just to be safe. This technique works so well because it eliminates the paradox of choice ]where we can't decide on what to do next; allows for strategic prioritization of your tasks and you have a clear record of how long tasks take to help with future planning.
