Introduction to layers

- [Instructor] If you want more control and flexibility when drawing or painting in Procreate, layers are your answer. I use them in every piece of work I create. When I open up the Layer menu, you can see that I have created all of the elements on separate layers. This gives me the freedom to make edits on a specific layer without affecting the other layers. The layers towards the top of the menu are at the top of your illustration and the layers at the bottom of the menu are at the bottom of your illustration. I can manage my layers by tapping, holding, and dragging them up and down to reorder the layers. To activate a layer, tap on the layer and it will appear dark blue. This is now the primary or active layer in your drawing. If I drag the layer to the left, I can lock, duplicate it, or delete it. You can also group layers by dragging them to the right and selecting multiple layers at one time and then grouping. At the very bottom of your menu is a background color layer. If you tap within the color box on that layer, you can change your background color. You can also turn the background color off completely, and this is necessary if you want to export transparent PNG files. I cannot emphasize enough the importance of using layers. I promise you that they will improve your overall Procreate experience.
