- I once had a supervisor who made it a point to ask for opinions. She sat down with us, listened and tested new ideas. She showed a clear democratic leadership style. Have you ever worked for a democratic leader like this, and were they effective? Let's look at this leadership style and figure out if it's right for you. I'm going to walk through some of its key characteristics, advantages and disadvantages. In terms of the characteristics, democratic leaders have a two heads are better than one philosophy. They have one key goal, to make the best decisions, so they seek feedback from followers, especially when decisions will impact those followers.
