How to communicate shared values
- We've all had those conversations that felt contentious or conflict-ridden. One important way to steer the conversation back to a productive place or to create a reset is to communicate what you have in common concerning the issue at hand. Communicating these shared values can sound like, "It seems like we share the desire "to choose the right candidate here. "I appreciate you being honest with me about your concern. "I agree with what you said "about the first choice job candidate. "It seems we both care a lot about growing "this team thoughtfully. "We each seem to agree that rushing this hiring decision "is the wrong approach." See how you can communicate shared values and interests to get a conversation back on track. Try it next time you see things taking an unnecessarily argumentative approach.
