- Have you ever worked for a leader who was a micromanager or didn't give feedback or someone who didn't have an open door policy or treated people disrespectfully, spoke to them in a very demeaning or disrespectful way, a leader who didn't have vision or didn't invest in your development? I could go on and on. Unfortunately, too many people today describe their leaders as having some or all of these attributes that I just mentioned. I find that leaders are promoted because they achieved great results in managing large scale projects and programs or because they produce more widgets than expected. But when promoted, they have no clue how to lead people effectively. Being great at managing projects and programs does not mean that you are great at leading people.
